I'm very excited today because fall is actually my favourite season, and today, we're going to look at some words, some verbs, some nouns that we use when we talk about the fall and the different activities that happen during this season.

今日はすごくワクワクしています。実は秋って、僕が一番好きな季節なんです。今日は、秋について話す時に使う単語や動詞、名詞、それから、秋の色々な活動について話します。

So, first, the top sentence says: "In fall or autumn..." Or: "In the fall, the autumn..."

まず、一番上の文章。"In fall or autumn..."もしくは、"In the fall, the autumn..."と書かれていますね。

When you're talking about seasons, you can use the article "the" or not. So you could say:

季節について話す時には、"the"という冠詞を使っても使わなくても良いです。だから、

"In the... In the fall..." or: "In fall...", "In the autumn..." or: "In autumn..."

"In the... In the fall..."、"In fall..."と言ったり、"In the autumn..."、"In autumn..."と言ったりできます。

And again, fall or autumn, doesn't matter which one you use, everyone will understand that you're talking about the season where things get colder, the leaves change colour, etc.

また、fallかautumnは、どちらを使っても良いです。寒くなったり、葉の色が変わったりする季節のことを話しているのだと、皆理解してくれますよ。

So, speaking of leaves, here's a lovely Canadian maple leaf.

葉と言えば、カナダの素敵なメープルの葉があります。

The leaves in the fall, we can say: "Change colour.", "They rustle."

秋の葉については、"Change colour"、"They rustle."と表現できます。

Now, if you're not familiar with the verb "rustle", it refers to the sound that the leaves make when the wind blows through them.

”rustle"という動詞を知らない人、これは、風が吹いた時に葉がたてる音のことです。

So, when you have the leaves going like "shh, [makes sound effects]", like this, the leaves start rustling.

葉が「サー」という音をたてていたら、rustle、つまり、葉がカサカサと音を立て始めるということです。

So the leaves rustle in the trees. They make sounds, like they're rubbing and crunching against each other.

葉は、木でカサカサと音をたてます。互いにこすり合っているような、パリパリとすり合っているような音です。

And, again, we say: "The leaves fall off the trees."

それから"The leaves fall off the trees."とも言えます。

We don't really say they fall the trees, or they fall down the trees.

"fall the trees"、"fall down the trees"とは言いません。

The most common expression, very useful, is just: "Fall off the trees."

最も一般的な表現で、非常に役立つのが、"fall off the trees"です。

So, here, you have a picture of a tree in the autumn or in the fall with the leaves on the ground.

ここに、秋の木の絵がありますね。地面に葉が落ちています。

Now, in the fall, here are some things that you have to do.

秋には、しないといけないことがいくつかあります。

Number one: "You have to bundle up."

1つ目は、bundle upです。

This is a phrasal verb that means that you have to dress warmer.

暖かい格好をしないといけない、という意味の句動詞です。

So, you notice me today, I'm wearing a jacket, I have a scarf.

気づいたでしょうか？今日、僕はジャケットを着て、マフラーをしているでしょう。

I am bundled up a little bit more. Okay?

少し厚着していますね。

So, "to bundle up" means to dress warmer.

”to bundle up"とは、暖かい格好をするということです。

You also have to rake the leaves.

落ち葉も掃かないといけません。

If you are a home owner, you have a house, and you have trees around your home, you might have to use a rake to rake the leaves. Okay?

家主で家を所有していて、家の周りに木がある場合、熊手を使って落ち葉をかき集めなければなりません。

Now, if you're lazy, or maybe just environmentally conscious a little bit more, you can also mulch. Mulch the leaves.

あなたが面倒くさがりだったり、もしくは少しだけ環境を意識するのなら、マルチすることもできます。

Now, "to mulch" means to cut them and make them into small little pieces.

"mulch"とは、葉を小さく切り刻むことです。

So, to mulch the leaves... Most lawnmowers are able to mulch leaves.

葉をマルチするのは…大半の草刈り機は、葉をマルチすることができます。

So this is a lawnmower.

これが草刈り機です。

I'll just write that word for you guys here.

この単語を、ここに書いておきましょう。

So, one more time. You rake leaves with a rake, and you mulch leaves with a lawnmower. Okay?

もう一度復習です。熊手で葉を掃き、草刈り機でマルチするのですね。

Talking about farmers in the fall, they reap the harvest. So, the harvest is the full collection of fruit, vegetables, etc. that the farmers have grown.

秋の農家について話しましょう。作物を収穫します。作物とは、農家が栽培した果物や野菜などのまとまりですね。

And now it's the fall, it's time to collect the food from the fields, so farmers reap the harvest;

秋になったら、畑から食べ物を収穫します。農家は、作物を収穫します。

They collect it, and take it, and make sure that, you know, everything is used and they take all the corn, all the other vegetables as well.

集めて、全て使われていることを確認して、それからコーンや他の野菜も、全て収穫します。

Farmers also put scarecrows in their fields.

農家は、畑にかかしも置きます。

So, here is a picture of a scarecrow, standing in a field like this.

これが、かかしの絵です。畑にこんな風に立っています。

So, this is a very common thing that farmers use to scare birds. Right?

これは、農家が鳥を怖がらせるために使う、一般的なものですね。

So, remember the word "scarecrow".

"scarecrow"（かかし）という単語を覚えておきましょう。

If you've seen the Batman movies, the Scarecrow. There's the inspiration.

バットマンの映画を見たことがある人は、スケアクロウが出ますよね。ここからインスピレーションを得ています。

And finally, in the fall, in the autumn, the temperature.

最後に、秋の気温です。

If you want to talk about the temperature getting colder, you can say:

気温がだんだんと寒くなってきていると話したいなら、

"The temperature drops.", "The temperature goes down.", "The temperature falls."

"The temperature drops."とか、"The temperature goes down."、"The temperature falls."と言えます。

So, it's all connected. We started with: "In the fall..." We end with the temperature falling.

全てつながっています。"In the fall..."で文章を始めて、気温が下がっていることで締めくくります。
