Deadpool and Wolverine is known for its pretty interesting opening credits scene, so I want to talk about the making of Dancepool.

Who is behind this and where did the idea come from?

First of all, the opening scene to the NSYNC hit was not performed by Ryan Reynolds and not even by Justin Timberlake.

まず第一に、NSYNCのヒット曲のオープニング・シーンは、ライアン・レイノルズが演奏したわけでも、ジャスティン・ティンバーレイクが演奏したわけでもない。

The man behind the Deadpool mask was professional dancer Nick Pauly.

デッドプールのマスクをかぶっていたのは、プロのダンサー、ニック・ポーリー。

But just as important is what happened before Nick was hired as Dancepool.

しかし、それと同じくらい重要なのは、ニックがダンスプールに雇われる前に起こったことだ。

And this is where the fun begins.

The song for the opening scene was not chosen by chance.

First Bye Bye Bye was mentioned in 2003 X-Men 2 during the Cyclops car scene.

Then in 2018 in the music video for Ashes by Celine Dion, which features Deadpool, he makes a joke.

Then it was involved in the movie production, told on his Instagram the full story of how Dancepool and the opening credits scene were created.

The director, designer and animator Johnny Likens had the unique privilege of pitching concepts and ideas to Ryan Reynolds and director Sean Levy for the opening sequence of their film.

As Johnny says, his favorite aspect for the Deadpool character is his ability to break the fourth wall.

And if Deadpool consciously knows he's in this fight scene, said to the song he might just feel inclined to pull off some of N'Sync's iconic dance moves during the fight.

But how to sell this idea to the filmmakers?

Johnny Likens learned the choreography for Bye Bye Bye and began recording the moves while wearing a mo-cap suit.

Then he animated the handle camera moves to make it feel like a shot of a music video.

The stylized hyper real forest scene was everyone's favorite.

So Ryan Reynolds and Sean Levy thought it was hilarious and knew immediately it was going to work.

The next step was to get a professional dancer.

In February 2024, Nick Pauly got a call from his agent who told him he needed to learn the Bye Bye Bye dance right now for something huge.

And Nick started learning the dance.

It didn't go well at first, but finally he got it right and sent the clip to the filmmakers.

He was eventually hired to perform the dance in the Deadpool suit and shoot it on a blue screen.

Then they integrated the live action dance into the stylized 3D environment compositions and added custom camera movements in post-production.
