Now 'this' and 'that' are used to talk about nouns

今では「this」と「that」は名詞について話すときに使われます。

さて、「that」は遠くにある1つの名詞について話すときに使います。

So, “That… that is a flower”.

だから、「あれ...あれは花です」。

Okay.

For another example…

別の例として...

“This is a marker.”

"This is a marker"

It's close to me.

私の近くにあります。

But “That… that is a marker”.

しかし、「あれ...あれが目印です」。

It's far away.

遠いですね。

So we know…

“This is a flower.”

So we have to use the negative.

だから、ネガティブを使わないといけない。

“This isn't a flower.”

"これは花ではない"

It's close by, but it isn't a flower.

近くにありますが、花ではありません。

'isn't' is a contraction for 'is not'.

isn't」は「is not」の短縮形です。

"それは花ではない"

It's far away, so we say “that”.

遠いから「that」と言うのです。

Again, we have 'isn't', 'a flower'.

ここでも「isn't」、「a flower」が出てきます。

“That's a chair.”

"それは椅子だ"

And let's take another example.

また、別の例を見てみましょう。

“This isn't a pencil.”

"これは鉛筆ではない"

“This is a marker.”

"This is a marker"

And…

そして・・・。

“That isn't a pencil.”

"それは鉛筆ではない"

“That is a marker.”

"あれが目印です"

ここからは、質問の中での「this」と「that」の使い方を学びます。

質問をするときは、切り替えが必要です。

We put the 'be' verb first.

私たちは、「be」の動詞を最初に置きます。

だから「これは花ですか」となる。

So the answer is, “Yes, it is”.

だから、答えは「Yes, it is」です。

The answer is, “Yes, it is”.

Okay, but how about this?

The answer is, “No, it isn't”.

答えは、「そうではない」です。

“Is that a flower?”

"それは花ですか？"

“No, it isn't.”

"そんなことないよ"
