So it's been over a week since we packed up and headed South

宮崎県、綾町にきてから約一週間

to the small town of Aya, in Miyazaki prefecture.

Honestly I was a little worried

最初は、うまく生活できるかどうかが

about adjusting to life here.

少し不安だったんだけど

But you know what?

今はね

I think we're starting to get the hang of it.

やっとこの町のペースに慣れたと思う。

(upbeat music)

オーマイガー！

Oh my god.

めっちゃ濡れているじゃん！

You're all wet, oh no.

今朝は早起きしましたよ。

So this morning, we got up early.

朝型ではない私にとっての早起きだったけど

Super early for me because I'm not a morning person at all.

今から私たちは車に乗って山の方に向かいますよ！

But we're in the car and we're going to the mountains.

私は車も免許も持っていないので

And I'm really excited because I don't have a car

一人じゃ、こんなところに来れないので

and I can't really get to any of these places

町の人の優しさのおかげで、 今回は一緒に参加できますし

unless nice people help and offer to drive me.

すごく感謝していますよ。

So I appreciate it.

今日は「梅まつり」というイベントです。

So today is the day of the Ume Matsuri,

山の奥で開催しています。

a small festival held in the mountains

毎年梅の花が咲くころに開かれています。

every year when the plum blossoms start to bloom.

私って結構運動不足ですが

I'm so out of shape but at the end of this trail,

このトレイルを登ったら、 梅の木がたくさんあるということで

there's supposed to be some ume blossoms in full bloom.

That's why. (panting)

頑張って登った価値が絶対あると思います。

Hopefully it's worth the struggle.

ちょっとしたハイキングをしたら、

After a short hike we arrived at the clearing

梅の木がたくさん並んでいる、 イベントの会場に着きました。

filled with plum blossom trees and it wasn't long

ハイキングトレイルから、次々と まつりの来客の姿が登場しました。

before other hikers began to join us there as well.

千円（１０ドル）で食券を買うことができ

For 1000 yen or $10 you could buy a meal ticket

昼になったらランチに交換できます。

that you can later exchange for lunch.

実際には無理なんだけどさ

I mean besides the obvious hazards,

出来立ての掻き揚げのてんぷらです！

Fresh kakiage, tempura.

このてんぷらの野菜は全て綾町産です。

So this is tempura made from all fresh Aya farmed products.

オーガニック！全て有機野菜でヘルシーです！

Organic, organic, they're all organic too.

しかも、この野菜はね、

And the vegetables, are just,

温かくて、パリッとしているし、味が甘いです！

they're crunchy, they're hot and they're sweet.

野菜に自然な甘さがあります。

They have this really natural sweetness to them.

すごく美味しいの！

Mm this is so good.

ランチの準備が進んでいる間に、外では・・

While lunch is being prepared in the kitchen,

梅の木の下で、和楽器の

festival goers are enjoying live,

生演奏が行われています。

traditional Japanese music.

尺八は、曲の物語を語るように吹く。

Played underneath the almost blossoming plum trees.

また、琴の響きが、物語の設定や雰囲気

(flute music)

を優しく描いていきます。

The shakuhachi, a Japanese flute, tells the story.

琴の楽譜ってこう書くんですね！

While the koto, the string instrument,

すごいじゃん！

skillfully creates the atmosphere.

私には全然理解できないです。

勉強になります。

お昼食ができましたが、その前に祭りの参加者が

神社にお参りします。食べる前に、神様にご挨拶してから、お礼を言います。

こんな美味しそうなご飯が食べれて、 私はすごくラッキーです。

I'm learning.

豚汁があります！説明すると、 豚肉の入ったお味噌汁みたいなスープです。

野菜たっぷりです！

おにぎりもあって、てんぷらもあって、漬物と

It's actually pretty fun.

鶏肉もあります！

Just before eating lunch, everyone heads up to the shrine

全部、竹の皿で配られています。

for a quick prayer, a greeting and a thank you to the gods.

後はみかんと、 先ほど私も混ぜてみた豆腐があって

(upbeat music)

そしてはあま酒ですね。

(speaking foreign language)

これ全部で、たった１０００円ですよ。

- I feel so lucky to be able to eat like this.

レストランで食べるよりも得な気がします！

We've got tonjiru which is a pork miso soup.

有機農業を綾町の人たちは、とても誇りに思っています。

It's full of vegetables.

自然な環境を守りながら、 地球に優しい農業をしています。

We've got onigiri, some tempura, some tsukemono,

農家の人たちが、 それぞれの得意作物で美味しい食材を育て

some chicken.

おかげで、町の人がたくさんの 有機野菜・果物を手に入れることができます。

All in this beautiful bamboo plate.

その結果、町の人が健康的で

An orange, some tofu that we were just stirring

恵まれた美しい自然に感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。

a minute ago and some amazake.

さて、今夜はカメラを持って、出かけます。

All of this for 1000 yen.

これはパナソニックのG7ですね。

This is better than restaurant quality, I'm pretty sure.

頑張って星空のタイムラップスをとってみたい

The town of Aya is very proud of its organic agriculture.
