good morning and welcome to a very snowy iwate prefecture i'm joined by my friend norm today
because norm wanted to come out here to the middle of nowhere in the countryside to experience some
snow because it's pretty rare down in southern japan you don't see snow very much in tokyo
but up here in the north we get it every day for months in the winter we're going to go on a little
snowy adventure today i've brought us out to hidayzumi which is a very historically important
area of iwate and there was lots of power here so because the city is so important it's been really
well preserved and it's just beautiful it's quite a small area but it's gorgeous so i hope you guys
enjoy the video today's snowy adventure is very nicely sponsored by glassesusa.com if you guys
are in the market for a new pair of frames you know i love them and i highly recommend them so
i will have the link down below they have so many different styles of glasses there's something for
everybody and you can get a full pair of prescription lenses and frames for a very
affordable price they also have a full money back guarantee on all the frames so if for some reason
you're not happy with the frames you chose you can get your money back i'll have the links
down below so do check those out but on to the exciting temple which we have figured out it's
a temple it's not a shrine flashback right now we're looking up this is a buddhist temple but
there's a shrine gate right there a tory gate and we're trying to figure out why this guy is
had no idea just learned something new yeah that's really awesome and a flashback
we are here what do you think i was trying to catch snowflakes with my tongue
i am norm's way too excited we get snow maybe once a year in tokyo and this year we kind of didn't
it was yeah we understated and at night and this is beautiful it is very nice i have to
say it has been snowing non-stop for months up here in iwate but this is really beautiful
the temples look extra pretty in the snow i'm not gonna lie so i'm
happy i could bring you guys out here and show it to you but this is takokuno iwaya
it's a very cool buddhist temple that's built into the side of a cliff how awesome is that
there's a really nice lake here uh i was last here in the summer pond small lake ocean here
there's usually fish in here i hope they're not in here anymore that would be very sad do they
hibernate under the water i have always wondered what happens to all the koi that are out in these
ponds do they like in the winter scoop them out i really hope so is there a koi scoop are they just
frozen in time until it melts maybe on the way out i can ask the guy that too that's a good idea
the guy was really nice yeah this is so cool and nobody else is here we've got it all to ourselves
probably one of my favorite things about coming up to northern japan is that you can come out
to places like this and there's almost always no one it's so true even in the summer when it was
like really nice weather there was nobody here uh do you want to go inside i do okay let's go
to be happy there's no hornets when i came here in the summer this is where they attacked me
pretty nice eh i'm just excited about the snow more than it's actually a really nice contrast
of you got the open field got the houses here the forest the mountain this probably
changes a lot season by season it does it's so pretty in the fall with the golden rice
fields that looks like it's probably a sakura tree definitely is we should come back in the
spring
pretty cool eh it is where do you want to go next are you hungry this town is actually famous for
mochi do you like kochi mochi's fantastic and they have this style of serving it that i've never seen
anywhere else in japan but okay yeah i'll just say that leave it as a surprise but i hope you like it
okay that's pretty cool they're alive they're alive and they dig their way into the dirt
they're just waiting there learning new things every day this is michi noeki gambike i think
is the name of it it's just a little roadside station but they do serve the special emoji
so hopefully norm likes it it'll be an experience oh great either way i feel like there's a bait
and switch kind of thing going on here look i got this great mochi it'll be an experience
so you order from this machine here
okay this is what you want i think can't read the kanji but i'm pretty sure this is it
okay ten dollars
and then you take your ticket and you give it to them at the counter
this is where really there were wasps in here what is with you and what they like
me i don't know what it is i don't know i'm starting to wonder if there are actually wasps
imagining this you're just like imagining these non-existent
walks
wow it's different flavors than last time it actually looks really good honestly
okay so last time i got it there was a natto one i was like are you kidding me really but this time i
don't see enough though i think sharla has this like really malicious plan that she was gonna
have me eat like natto mochi and like this is the only bad one though there were more
so last time we came here there was a natto one there was a shrimp one it was all over the place
but this time it actually looks really good so i think you might like it which is good
most of them look very sweet this is zunda which is soy bean but it's usually sweet this is red
bean paste also sweet black sesame which should be delicious daikon we've got she packet deep
fried tofu pocket this one looks like some kind of citrus peanut and this one might be chicken
i don't know but let's dig in enjoy coming in here there was this atmosphere of like i'm
gonna get you with this mochi i'm gonna get you and i feel like we ended up with really
good mochi and charlotte's playing his backfire no i'm very happy that it's good flavors this
time i recommend starting with the savory ones and working your way to the sweet ones
got a whole plan what this oh this is what what it's just dying but it's not even watching oh
the confusion did they for the [ __ ] you should dig into mine i thought they like forgot to put
the mochi in mine because last time it was like three mochi on each row this one's my favorite
so it's an inari tofu pocket with mochi inside it's delicious and where should i start
it's nice right it's all really good i'm back try the shitake i really liked that one last time i
thought it was kind of unique but i thought it was really good kind of tang to it does it it's got a
tang almost like a shiso kind of does it yeah i swear they just change up the flavors like daily
whatever they feel like they're like i'm gonna throw some shiso in here today it's fun though
you don't know what to expect no really good i'm really intrigued by this orange one i'm not a
fan of yuzu i really hope it's not yuzu it kind of looks like marmalade though it's very orange
wait it does
why does it smell like pumpkin is it pumpkin what i was expecting a really strong orange smell
squash it's very sweet
it has a very subtle sweet flavor
you know what i said peanut for this one but i think it might be chestnut hmm it's almond
oh my god that is delicious did you like the almond one i loved it holy crap that is so
good i'm so happy that there's so many different flavors that i didn't try last time thoughts
on the mochi volunteer was good positive didn't expect to walk out experience it's very filling
because they give you like nine different well i guess eight they kind of skimped out this time
with that little patch of daikon that was weird but ate mochi you get really full off of them
wow really sweet it's really snowing are you sick do you understand my pain every day this is what
i deal with every day it is really pretty though i think we need like a slow motion norman join me
okay let's go so what are your thoughts on north japan did you have a nice trip i had an amazing
trip would you recommend that people come up here in the winter absolutely i would look at this
it is nice the snow is very powdery i've noticed like i said we've had three straight months of it
and it's been really nice snow the whole time like it hasn't been slushy it's been these really soft
flakes that are really nice to walk on once it piles up so also the roads are clear yeah they
don't salt the roads here but they do a really nice job of clearing them off they're used to it
it snows so much up here that they're prepared for it so it's not too bad to drive in the winter for
the most part sapporo have heated sidewalks yeah they do they'll have like the hot water running
under the road i guess and it melts all the snow it's quite impressive but i hope you guys enjoyed
our little snowy adventure again check out the links in the description box if you would like
to get yourself some glasses from glassesusa.com and check out norm i will have him there as well
he also makes really cool videos about japan so i think you would enjoy his channel bye for now guys
