-My next guest is a Grammy-nominated comedian
and a very talented actor who has received rave reviews
for his work in the film "The King of Staten Island,"
streaming now on HBO Max.
You can also see him
in the blockbuster show "The Mandalorian" on Disney+.
This dude is knocking it out of the park.
He's one of my favorites.
Here is Bill Burr!
Oho, oh, look at -- -Jimmy.
-Look at you. -How are you?
-Oh, it's good to -- -I love that
you did the audience applaud -- applause for everybody.
"Yeah, there he is! Come on!
Keep it going for him!" [ Both laugh ]
-I can't help myself. It's a -- It's a -- It's a thing.
I'm just used to doing it, yeah. -It is what it is.
Jimmy, I do stand-up now outside, next to highways.
-[ Laughs ] -I mean, that's --
It just is what it is.
Those early shows, when you're battling rush hour,
is brutal. -[ Laughs ]
-Late at night,
when it's just the third shift and drunk drivers,
it's not bad -- you can actually hear the crowd.
[ Both laugh ]
-Yeah, I would -- you would probably take one --
like, no -- you -- right?
I mean, horns honking -- that's one thing.
-Lights flashing.
I've got to this point where, actually, when cars pull in,
I'm like, "There's too many Priuses.
This is gonna be too sensitive a crowd."
[ Both laugh ]
-This feels like a sequel.
-I need a couple of SUVs to balance out the electric cars
that I know I can have a fun audience.
Too much of either, it's going to be --
Too many SUVs, they'll start yelling, "Build the wall."
You know? -[ Laughs ] Yes.
-Usual. -Do people --
I mean, it's unbelievable --
do people still get mad at you for saying stuff?
They must. -Yeah, like when
those nitwits went to the Capitol, right?
Everybody was obviously talking about it.
Everybody was saying it was the wrong thing to do.
So I was doing my podcast.
What am I gonna be -- the 9 millionth person to do it?
So I just did this little misdirection thing, saying,
"You know, it takes a lot to offend me,
but what I saw yesterday really sickened me.
Those uniforms the Miami Heat wore
against the Boston Celtics..."
And then I added the same level of being offended
that people were about the Capitol.
It was completely absurd.
But, Jimmy, I'm a clown, okay? -Yeah.
-I don't -- I'm not running for office.
And these people -- like, half a dozen, dozen people,
got -- like, took the time to send me a tweet.
Like, one guy, like, sent me a statement to let me know
that he was no longer going to be -- after 10 years --
it was like he was -- he was giving me his resignation.
-[ Laughs ]
-That's what I love about social media --
it's not like Joe Sixpack has the ego of a celebrity.
-Yeah. -Like, he really felt
that he needed to make this announcement
and everybody else just had to hear it
rather than him just moving on to another podcaster.
-They asked you -- Somebody said --
they were talking about anti-maskers,
and that was the whole thing,
and should people wear a mask or should not wear a mask?
People should wear a mask.
-Yeah. -Yes.
-That's what the doctors -- that's what they say.
So I don't understand why you wouldn't do it.
And now they got a vaccine,
and people are saying they're not going to do it.
I understand people who aren't white
saying they're not going to do it,
'cause I wouldn't trust white people at this point, either.
But I figured because they started in England,
they started with white people, that's a pretty good sign.
And -- But I know there's going to be, like,
people who don't want to take it.
I think, eventually, to get through this,
what's going to happen
is, like, the CIA is going to have to get in choppers
and just, like, be shooting people,
like, coming out of food courts with, like, the vaccine --
you know, they do it, like -- like, wild boars and stuff.
-[ Laughing ] Yeah, exactly. -Just...
-That's... -Just make them do it.
-Yeah. And if they don't feel it --
-You can somehow move on. -Yeah. That's a good idea.
Someone's on that right now.
2020, obviously, has been bizarre for a lot of us,
but, man, you've been firing on all cylinders.
You appeared in a couple episodes
in the first two seasons of "Mandalorian,"
which I'm like -- I was backtracking in my mind.
I go -- I think Favreau loves you, obviously.
I think that's what -- I go -- 'Cause I was like,
"I love that Bill Burr's crushing this thing."
-It really came -- you know, dude, you know the deal.
You've done acting. It's all -- They got to write it.
If it's not there on the page and then they edit it
and they put the music.
I just sat there and said what they wrote.
So it's really Rick and Jon and all of those guys over there,
not to mention their actors.
-I heard that some some fans were like,
"Hey, why -- why does he have a Boston accent?"
-Oh, I know. That's hilarious.
"I've never heard a Boston accent in outer space,"
is what they say.
And I always just go like, "Oh, yeah? What about English?"
-[ Laughs ] -Isn't that a little weird?
If you went to a galaxy far, far away
and you get off, and somebody's like,
"Hey, how's it going?" and you totally understand him.
-[ Laughs ] -What about the fact that
Han Solo is talking to a Bigfoot?
He's speaking Bigfoot, Han Solo's speaking English,
they never break character, but one keeps going...
[ Imitating Wookiee ] -[ Laughs ]
And he's like, "I said hit the -- the button, Chewie!"
[ Imitating Wookiee ] -[ Laughs ]
-And that was all fine. None of that.
How about C-3PO with an English accent --
that was okay?
The guy's been knighted, huh? -Yeah, he's --
-He just played Royal Albert Hall,
and now he's hanging out with -- with --
I almost said "Lynyrd Skynyrd" --
Luke Skywalker?
-[ Laughs ] Lynyrd Skynyrd.
-Yeah, dude.
F those nerdy... -Oh. Oh, my gosh.
-...nitpicking nerds. -Oh, my gosh.
Dude, on top of that, you're -- speaking, of good acting chops,
dude, you were great in "King of Staten Island" --
Judd Apatow, you, and Marisa Tomei.
She was fantastic, too, by the way.
-Oh, man, Marisa was unbelievable.
-She's fantastic.
-She's the -- She's the best I ever worked with.
She was un-un-f'ing-believable. -Right.
It's almost like -- but, you, too,
'cause I know you, and I'm like --
this is like watching it --
It's like watching a different dude.
It's like watching the two dif-- which is what good acting is.
But the dialogue was good, the -- the -- the backstory.
-They -- They wrote a -- They wrote a great movie,
and they -- you know, and Judd's real cool where it's like --
You know, you come up, you do the show,
you do the scene -- right? --
you do two takes of it the way they wrote it,
and then he just kind of comes up and goes,
"You know, that little area there --
Maybe you want to build that out."
And I had -- like, maybe the first week,
I had a little anxiety about doing it.
I mean, working with Marisa was really intimidating
because she just is -- is so, so good.
But by like the fourth or fifth day,
I kind of realized, like, "Oh, I'm just gonna have fun.
This is just -- This is just improv and having fun."
But in everybody that I was working with --
and, you know, Pete Davidson, is just a really special dude
