  • I'm so sorry.

  • I've got a bit of a cold.

  • I know it's-- you're giving things away.

  • So I brought a cold to give everybody.

  • Oh, isn't that great?

  • But thanks for letting everybody know,

  • which is why we didn't hug because I wanted to hug you.

  • I'm a big fan.

  • I'm so happy to be here.

  • I'm a big fan of yours.

  • And my son loves the show as well.

  • And when I told him I was going to be on he

  • was really, really excited.

  • So it's a thrill to be here.

  • But he's not in the audience like Jackie is.

  • I know.

  • Yeah, Jackie is here, but your son doesn't love me as much

  • as Jackie.

  • He's in school, Ellen.

  • His schoolwork's important.

  • Priorities, priorities.

  • You make a fair point.

  • I do.

  • You know what I mean?

  • Yes, I do.

  • I'm going to look into that.

  • What's going to be a longer lasting memory, education

  • or me?

  • Boy, I am screwed.

  • They're not going to air this, are they?

  • Because this is clearly a poor parenting choice.

  • It really was.

  • So congratulations on The Morning Show.

  • It's so good.

  • And you're so good in it.

  • And you've gotten a lot of nominations

  • for the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards.

  • So congratulations on that.

  • Thank you very much.

  • [APPLAUSE]

  • It's really, I mean, the whole cast is great.

  • And of course, Jen and Reese are both friends of mine.

  • And well, tell--

  • Are they equal friends of yours?

  • Jen and I are best friends.

  • And Reese is, you know, she's on the outside trying to get in.

  • She's always like, hey, you guys.

  • Does that create an uncomfortable dynamic?

  • For her it does.

  • Will Reese come on and kiss too?

  • No, she's not kissed me the way Jen does.

  • By the way, I'm-- now that I think about it,

  • based on how you kissed Jen, and how many people she's kissed,

  • I'm a little upset that you didn't hug me there.

  • It seems like she's been around from all those pictures we've

  • seen.

  • No, I do worry about that.

  • I saw that after she kissed me.

  • Had I seen all that ahead of time--

  • OK, fair enough.

  • You would have given her the elbow, too?

  • I would have given her the elbow.

  • Yeah.

  • So tell everybody what the show is about.

  • Well, it's about morning news.

  • And it sort of takes place where there's this, kind of,

  • hurricane of an event where Mitch Kessler--

  • who is played by Steve Carell, who

  • is just a phenomenal actor--

  • all of these charges come out against him for all

  • of his sexual impropriety.

  • And I play the president of the network who has recently

  • taken over the news division after spending

  • a couple of years at the entertainment division.

  • And I decide that I don't really care about news.

  • I want entertainment and ratings.

  • So I bring in Reese Witherspoon, who

  • is this unpredictable reporter, to try to liven things

  • up and get the ratings going for a morning show that

  • may be failing in the ratings.

  • Yes, and then you don't know who's

  • going to keep their job, who's going to lose their job.

  • It's really good.

  • And it has Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon

  • and Steve Carell and Mark Duplass and--

  • And you.

  • I'm in it as well.

  • And everybody is very good.

  • Everybody's great.

  • And you mentioned your son.

  • Is he an actor?

  • Well, he's in school right now.

  • So he's not a professional actor.

  • But he loves the arts because mom

  • and I are both in the business.

  • And so he took a film class, actually,

  • while we were doing this last season.

  • And during the film class, he and his friend Zev and Cole,

  • the three of them made a movie.

  • I'm sure you'll see it at some point.

  • It was a seven minute experimental film

  • called Parchment.

  • But in the film, he decides to cast mom and dad.

  • But I was filming it when I was coming

  • home on the weekends and stuff from working here.

  • So needless to say, I didn't want

  • to go from the paid working gig to the non-paid working gig

  • while I'm being directed by my 15-year-old who says things

  • like, well, that's a stupid choice, dad.

  • Do it better.

  • I don't know if you guys have had 15-year-olds.

  • But something changes in there.

  • You get talked to like that and not get paid.

  • That's really sad.

  • And also, too, yeah, he would wake me up for re-shoots.

  • Needless to say, I was thrilled that the character that I

  • was playing was aggressively angry

  • and discombobulated the entire time.

  • Because it's a real experience because that was all of my

  • takes.

  • Oh my God.

  • Well, I can't wait to meet him.

  • Next time you're on, bring him with you.

  • I certainly will.

  • He'll be thrilled to be here.

  • All right.

  • The Morning Show is so good.

  • It's available on Apple TV+.

  • We'll be right back.

I'm so sorry.
