  • There's always seem more discussion about how the MBA is going to, um, you know, continue to promote black lives, matter, movement, social injustice, issues.

  • Eso Abbas over also talked about this.

  • Ah, on that in that interview, and you mentioned how the MBA MBA Pia P.

  • A R planning the paint, black lives matter on the courts.

  • Use that Disney World.

  • And there's also been discussion of allowing players to put the names of certain causes on the back of their jerseys to replace the players.

  • Last name Adam Silver said they haven't yet decided.

  • Um, you know whether or not they're going to do that, but it's certainly in discussion.

  • What do you make of these steps?

  • Park?

  • I Listen, I looked at all the people.

  • Is that that's I feel criticizing this sand.

  • Oh, okay, cool.

  • So what?

  • They do this now?

  • That's makes right, because anything they could bring awareness to black lives matters.

  • In my opinion, I applaud like people want to say, Oh, that's all you are doing.

  • That's a lot.

  • That's a lot.

  • Millions of people are going to be watching these games, and it's gonna be a reminder to the millions of people that are watching the game, so I'm waited 100%.

  • Also, these guys have hundreds of thousands of millions people filing them on social media.

  • I'm pretty sure they're gonna be, you know, posting that jersey pregame postgame I'm with.

  • I love that idea.

  • Listen, it's a great still moving forward in my figure.

  • And don't knock it like people so ready to criticise.

  • Oh, that's all the NBA's doing.

  • What you mean that's all they doing like That's a lot to me.

  • That's a lot.

  • That's a lot is bringing awareness to the millions of people There's going to be watching these games, and I and I love it.

  • I love the regiment and going It's a start is a start.

  • Some weeks, bro.

  • Come on, One of the people that you talk about right there, I just to me, pro testing, making signs using our voices.

  • These are all tools of the people because the people often don't have resource.

  • You don't have money to have connections right when you talk about the N B A and specifically in Beit Owners and the N B.

  • A is the league office they have resource is they got money.

  • And most importantly, they have direct lines to every lawmaker in this country, at least the ones that operate in MBA municipalities.

  • So to me, you know, I'm not saying this is all their doing, but if all they're doing is putting black lives matter on the court, that's not good enough.

  • That's not good enough because you have power and opportunity available for you to do so much more perk.

  • It would be like me if I made $10 million a year.

  • I'll give you a great example.

  • The dude.

  • Virgil Virgil Ablow, the designer who is under fire for a bunch of things right?

  • But one of the things that people are killing them for is he's like, Hey, we should support that.

  • Ah, and lets all donate money.

  • And he donated 50 bucks, Bro.

  • You've got lots of money and all you could spare with $50 for this.

  • And and so in the same way, the MBA.

  • It's not just money, it's the influence.

  • It's the the connection that they have as owners and as an entity to get real change done.

  • As I said last week, well, there was a discriminatory law in North Carolina.

  • They got living pain.

  • LGBT Q Lives matter on the floor.

  • They went and got stuff done.

  • They went, they did action.

  • And that's what we're looking for is action because what you have available to you is far greater than what the people in the streets who do have to make signs we do have to protest by social media, have to do and not listen to.

  • May I understand that?

  • But that's behind the scenes work, right?

  • We said, like if the FDA did nothing that would get criticized for their one of the NBA's said, We're not going to do none of this right, like it would be dead.

  • They do damage, they don't but they recognize it.

  • Then this matters by putting it on that platform with millions of people going to see.

  • I'm not disagreeing about anything that you're saying, but when I tell you is Is that what you're calling for?

  • That's behind the sames work.

  • That's not something somebody's going to see on camera off.

  • We're going talk to a senator on mayor on governor, are even a president.

  • Hi, close doors.

  • No, that's behind the scenes work.

  • I'm talking about what?

  • People can actually see it.

  • Why communities could say, You know what the NBA is recognized in black lives matter.

  • Because what Kosuke Another day, right?

  • He know a lot of people, right?

  • He knows tons of people.

  • I'm pretty sure Man's governments etcetera.

  • But he didn't video sand say black lives matter Say, why did he do the video?

  • But he got applauded for and I thought it before he did it because he just wanted to bring the weapons, which made a lot of system me.

  • And I'm like, OK, cool.

  • But what just happened by this behind the scenes work and I'm not backing it.

  • I would say this.

  • I would say two things.

  • One when it came to Charlotte, it wasn't behind the scene.

  • They made their voice very clearly and very loud that Adam Silver didn't just say trans lives matter.

  • He said, This is discriminatory and if there isn't a change, this is what we're going to do.

  • So no, I don't have you don't have three by indices, but let me just put that aside and said Let's just assume that it is behind the scene.

  • I think one of the other things that we have to do as a people.

  • Right to make sure that the Mo mentum is happening right now doesn't run out, is we have toe hold these people accountable.

  • Adam Silver.

  • You telling me you're gonna do behind the scenes stuff?

  • Okay, here's amino acid and using his platform Making sure.

  • Wait a second.

  • It's not just black lives matter on the floor, right?

  • Make sure Wait a second.

  • You all are doing everything behind the scenes.

  • Like I'm gonna keep saying that because the moment I stopped saying it, if people start asking about it, guess what?

  • Nothing gets done.

  • One of the things that happened in Texas Yeah, this last week Waas, the Texas Realtors Association, basically said, we're going to do away with the word turn, master bedroom because as connotations comes from slavery times, the master bedroom is a bedroom or master slap is slept.

  • Okay, that's nice.

  • And it's a nice gesture, and it definitely has the right cinema at heart.

  • But you know what would be more meaningful if we didn't have housing discrimination and black?

  • You don't have to pay more for houses than white white people and black people were not, uh, charge.

  • Higher interest rates for mortgages and black people were not denied mortgages by people were not denied the opposite of rent in certain neighborhoods or having to pay higher rents.

  • All of these things are way more meaningful, then Master bedroom.

  • But what happens is people do that and everyone applauds, and one feels good.

  • We did something against racism today because the easiest step to do to take away master to paint something on the floor, you don't feel Just look, let's just focus on you know, this this first plan of putting black lives matter on the court and possibly having personalized jerseys that say black lives matter.

  • I can't breathe other other sayings, whereas Chris Paul told the undefeated last week, People are saying that Social Justice will be off everybody's mind in Orlando.

  • But with these jerseys, it doesn't go away.

  • So say I'm interviewing one of the players, postgame.

  • They could they could turn around, show me what's on their back.

  • Take that moment in time, Teoh explain.

  • You know their feelings of a situation, what they're doing in the community, that this is it's about the platform.

  • I guess you are making perfect sets.

  • More needs to be done, but also these these things help move the conversation along and extend this mo mentum as you put it.

  • And so I guess I'm just asking Do like these ideas alone, but this is a cast.

  • You said something that was there was key.

  • You bought a key night, Chris Paul, Right, So to me, I don't think that Adam Silver in the n b.

  • A and the owners came up with this idea, our ideas to put this on the court.

  • I think Chris, Paul and the players Association and the players came up with this idea and bought it to Adam Silver.

  • And he agreed upon it because obviously this is something that a woman do.

  • So I'm waiting.

  • I understand.

  • Like we gotta do it behind the scenes work, but we got to start somewhere like you can build an empire holding back.

  • So you got to start somewhere.

  • And to me, if they didn't do none of this, it would be like all man should they could at least put this on a jerseys on it could at least recognized the black lives matter movement some.

  • Well, the court if they would have done anything all but thinking about during the day.

  • So it's like you gotta like at least starting some well meaning.

  • That's not saying right for him.

  • You know what it's like.

  • It's like the statements that we had the weekend after, uh, George Food was murdered.

  • Remember what I said?

  • I said, It's damned if you do, damned if you don't, but you're a whole lot more damned if you don't in the sense of we're talking about the Knicks, not making a statement like everybody else, made a statement in the statements.

  • Many of them were meaning, like kind of toothless, but the statement was hadn't meaning.

  • I'm not here to tell you, but black lives matter on the court liner.

  • Jersey doesn't matter.

  • Of course it met.

  • But I'm also here to tell you I don't think that's it.

  • You good now, don't we Gucci?

  • Just because you put something on the floor and without a voice or voices bringing that up?

  • It's very easy for brands, for teams, for the league, for whoever who is capitalizing on this with statements and removing names of things, it is very easy for them to say we did our part, who like and I'm just trying to be one of the voices that make sure they know what you just said in the starting point.

  • You think the destination we just got on the highway.

  • Now listen, I agree with it, but guess what is on.

  • Chris Paul is on.

  • LeBron James is on J toy.

  • Russell Westbrook Daniel Little delis goes on, so make sure that they continue to hold these people.

  • Come.

  • It's morning for it's about wanting more and not just be about about statements, not letting it just be about black squares on your instagram on.

  • And you know what?

  • We're gonna see what happens with these jerseys because while the black lives matter on the court, I think is, you know, basically says where the MBA stands.

  • I think these messages on the jerseys have the potential to, um, you know, move the message along a little bit more because it's going to be individualized.

  • But that's still still discussion.

  • We don't know what they're going to.

  • We already saw John Moran he having to apologize for promoting a Photoshopped, you know, bleep 12 jersey.

  • So I think There's a lot of variables that go into that decision for for players that have, you know, messages on their jerseys.

  • Thanks for watching ESPN on YouTube for live streaming sports and premium content.

  • Subscribe to ESPN plus.

There's always seem more discussion about how the MBA is going to, um, you know, continue to promote black lives, matter, movement, social injustice, issues.
