  • Welcome back to the Fuji Guys channel. My name is Billy. Today we're taking a first

  • look at Fujifilm's latest mirrorless camera, the X-T4. Now this is Fujifilms

  • most capable mirrorless camera today offering incredible photo and video

  • features and we're going to talk about that today.

  • The X-T4 continues to take the same design concept as previous generation.

  • It still has similar form factor, although it is slightly bigger and

  • slightly heavier and that's due to some new hardware that's now implemented

  • making this a super capable of camera both photos and for videos. The camera

  • is available in two color options; you got the all-black finish as well as a

  • two-tone silver and black that I have here. The camera is available in three

  • options you have the body only, the XF18-55mm f2.8-4 lens and you also

  • have the weather resistant kit which is the XF16-80mm f4 lens and

  • that's gonna make this camera completely weather resistant just like its

  • predecessor. Looking quickly at the camera,

  • it retains a lot of the dials and controls of its predecessor. You got

  • your ISO dedicated dial, your shutter speed dial you exposure compensation

  • dial and your front and rear command out on the back of the camera, you

  • still have your AF joystick and the camera still retains the directional pad,

  • which can be configured for additional function buttons. The placement of some

  • of the buttons have changed, and they've added things like an AF-ON button.

  • They've also changed the metering dial to be a quick switch between movies and

  • stills. In addition to that they revamped the drive dial to make it a little bit

  • easier to use some of the functions. On the side of the camera you have your

  • various connection ports. You have your mic, your remote, your HDMI. as well as

  • your USB port. The USB port is used to charge as well as to transfer

  • images to the computer when it's connected, or to tether with the camera.

  • To monitor your audio the USB-C also doubles up as your headphone connection,

  • with the included adapter. On the side of the camera you have your dual SD card

  • slot and they do support UHS-II cards. what's new what the door

  • is that it can be removable if you want to. Other improvements to this camera

  • include things like the eye-piece latch mechanism being updated, the Q menu has

  • also been re positioned, and making it harder to accidentally

  • press the button. Of course it is fully customizable and you can change the

  • function to whatever you like.

  • One of the biggest updates to this camera is a new in body image

  • stabilization, that supports up to six and a half stop with the majority of Fujifilm

  • lenses. It's quite incredible and the new IBIS system is designed to be

  • smaller and more lightweight than previous generations. One of the major

  • benefits of IBIS is that it effectively makes all FUJIFILM XF

  • lenses stabilized, including my favorite the XF 35mmF1.4.

  • With the addition of the IBIS unit, the focal plane shutter has also been

  • updated and newly improved. It's more silent. It's more durable and it's going

  • to allow you to shoot much faster; up to 15 frames per second in mechanical

  • shutter. You don't have to use the focal plane shutter on this camera

  • it does offer a silent, electronic shutter that can shoot up to 30 frames

  • per second blackout free which is quite incredible.

  • another major update to this camera is the rear LCD screen it is a touch screen

  • it's high resolution but it's now fully articulating meaning that you can now

  • flip it front completely to monitor your video or if you're shooting stills and

  • you want to be in the shot to ensure that you're properly framed. Now, if

  • you're using this camera for photos one of the benefits of this new screen

  • is that you can flip it inwards to protect the LCD screen. Now, if you're

  • shooting video like me it is very beneficial to have this new articulating

  • screen. You can monitor your footage ensuring that the framing is

  • correct and making sure that the camera is recording and is focused on you.

  • Now, the X-T4 carries on the great electronic viewfinder that the previous

  • generation had it's a 3.69 million dot organic LED display, so

  • it's, you know, high contrast very bright with a frame rate up to a hundred frames

  • per second. So, again, looking through it it's gonna be as if you're looking in

  • real life. There's now three boost modes for the EVF. You have low light priority,

  • resolution priority and frame rate priority. So, you can choose the right

  • settings for the different situations that you'll be in with this camera. The

  • upgrades keep coming for this camera it now utilizes a new high-capacity and

  • lithium-ion battery it's the NP-W235 and it offers up to

  • 2200 milliamp hours. In addition to that you can charge the camera via the USB-C

  • port and it includes a 15 watt 3 amp charger. The menu has also been updated

  • so that you can check the age of the battery. Now, if you're looking to take

  • more pictures in that without swapping out the batteries the camera does offer

  • an optional vertical grip that grip holds two additional batteries for a

  • total of three; giving you up to 1,700 shots per charge in total with the grip

  • attached. It also includes a dedicated 3.5 mm headphone jack to monitor

  • your audio; so you don't have to use a USB-C connection adapter. You can also

  • charge all three batteries via the USB-C connection; and this makes it very

  • convenient for the very first time. If you prefer to charge your batteries

  • outside the camera FUJIFILM does offer an optional BC-W235V charger that

  • allows you to charge two batteries at once. It even has a little LCD display to

  • display the percentage of charge while it is charging.

  • At the heart of this camera lies a 26 megapixel X-Trans CMOS IV sensor and

  • a quad-core cpu X-Processor 4 with the latest firmware and starting this camera

  • it adds improvements in autofocus both in continuous as well as single

  • autofocus, face and eye detection and also improved low-light focusing down to

  • -6.0 EV. There's even in improvements in the wide

  • tracking autofocus capabilities of this camera allowing you to lock in the

  • subject much easier and much better throughout the scene. Like most recently

  • announced Fujifilm cameras, it does incorporate some of the latest features

  • and functions. You have two new film simulations classic negative as well as

  • a new ETERNA profile call ETERNA Bleach Bypass. From an image quality standpoint you

  • have improve adjustments in the tone curve; at one-third stops. Now you have a

  • clarity scale, you do have some improvements in the in-camera RAW

  • capabilities that allow you to create TIFF files that are either 8 or 16 bit.

  • In addition to that, the camera now has a new compressed RAW option that makes

  • the files even smaller. The time lapse feature has been improved you have

  • things like exposure smoothing for time-lapse shooting which allows you to

  • keep the footage very consistent and just like previous cameras you got

  • things like grain effects that have been updated to that you have color chrome

  • effects for standard as well as for blue to create more definition in those

  • channels of color. You have expanded multi exposure modes that allow you to

  • shoot up to nine frames you have things like focus bracketing that makes it a

  • lot easier to create more depth of field in your shot if you're doing things like

  • macro work. And for greater dynamic range you have the HDR mode that's now built

  • into the dial itself it takes three shot handheld or on a tripod and it will create

  • that RAW file for later on so that you can get the most out of that shot. If you

  • dive deeper into the updates, you also got things like the auto white balance

  • that has been updated you have things like white priority or ambience

  • priority, so you can choose how that scene plays out in turn

  • of the white balance. And, for function buttons you got eight pages of

  • things that you can assign to one of the many function buttons on this camera.

  • There's even a reset option that's an independent for photo and for video

  • allowing you to reset one or the other. You now have dedicated dials to switch

  • between still and video mode the video menus are now independent from the

  • stills menu so when you go into the menu options they show up differently now

  • versus in the past where certain things get blacked out. So, this is going to be

  • great for any hybrid shooters or anyone looking into buying this camera

  • specifically for video it does offer the incredible, you know, 4:2:2 10-bit

  • through the HDMI out as well as 4:2:0 10-bit bit up to 4k 60 fps,

  • which is, of course, incredible. With this camera the slow motion feature has been

  • updated. You now have up to 240 fps at 1080p and that would give

  • you about 10 times slow-motion footage. If you're doing some unique shots that's

  • gonna be seen right in the camera once you finish recording. What's also exciting is

  • that if you're shooting in F-Log mode, you now have an F-Log assist function.

  • That gives you a film simulation preview so that it makes it easier to see what

  • your final output could look like and it's going to make it easier

  • when you're adjusting things like white balance for a filming video. There's also

  • improvements in the audio side. You got an option for either mic or line input.

  • So, again, if you're using a mixer you might want to select the line input for

  • the best possible quality. You have now the ability to shoot MPEG-4 footage if

  • you wanted to but you can also stick with the MOV files that give you the

  • best audio recording from this camera. Just like the X-T3,

  • you have the ability to shoot F-Log internally F-Log externally or HLG,

  • which is your Hybrid Log Gamma Function. That's gonna give you more dynamic range

  • the base ISO for that is 1,000 ISO. But, shooting in daylight

  • it's going to allow you having to more latitude in pulling more details in

  • the highlights back in.

  • Now, if you look at stabilization for video there are a couple options that

  • you can turn on or off. You can turn off the in body image stabilization

  • if you wanted to if you are filming with a camera on a tripod. You

  • also have the ability to use IBIS and also the combination of IBIS and the

  • electronic image stabilization so it actually pairs, you know, electronic

  • conversion of that as well using the IBIS unit to create even more steady

  • footage. When you're using electronic image stabilization, its gonna

  • have a slight crop to allow it to move the frames and align those frames again

  • in conjunction with the gyro sensor that's built in. Now, if you're filming

  • handheld and you're not panning or you're not moving there's also an IBIS

  • boost mode that allows the the IBIS unit to be much more stronger to ensuring

  • that the subject that you're filming is super steady. Like most Fujifilm cameras

  • you have the ability to use both face and eye detection you also can configure

  • that for AF tracking as well as the AF speed so that it suits you know what

  • type of footage you're trying to film. Because the camera has independent

  • settings in video compared to the photo side of things, you have now the ability

  • to do custom profile settings that you can set and rename yourself so that if

  • you're shooting in Velvia where you're shooting with log you can kind of

  • configure that and quickly switch between the various profiles the Q menu.

  • Also is independent from the photo side of things so you again you can configure

  • the Q menu specifically for video features so that it's not cluttered with

  • any other functions and there's a lot other customizable options.

  • You got tally lights on it. You also have things like timecode and

  • improvements in the audio that I mentioned earlier. Now, digging deeper in

  • the menus for the video as well they've changed the movie silent mode to movie

  • control settings which means it just allows you have somewhat independent

  • settings from the dials on the camera you can configure the exact shutter

  • speed for the frame rate that you're shooting.

  • And, of course, it's touch control you can also use the joystick or even the

  • command dial to make those adjustments. A nice addition, of course, is the ability

  • to backup your footage so if you're filming on one card you can have a

  • secondary card and film the exact same footage on the other just in case. That

  • makes it very convenient. If you're filming at 4k and up to 30 fps,

  • there's no crop in the footage. If you're filming at 4k 60 frames there's a

  • very slight crop. And, if you're using the IBIS and electronic image stabilization,

  • then there's a slightly bigger crop in that, in total. Now, the camera has a new

  • feature where you can kind of preview the the greatest crop which is at 1.29

  • that's with the electronic image stabilization and that means that when

  • you're filming for mixed footage from 30 frames 60 frames and other you'll get

  • that crop so that later on all the footage can be put together and you have

  • them all you know aligned to the same look and feel so

  • that when you merge it it becomes more consistent.

  • Wow! This camera is really featured packed! You got things like IBIS, a fully

  • articulating LCD screen, a new high capacity battery, a new focal plane

  • shutter, firmware that's now been updated to improve things like low-light

  • focusing as well as tracking autofocus. You also got operability updates from

  • you know different dial placements to the dials themselves and even separate

  • menus for videos and photo it really is a featured packed camera. Now, is this

  • camera the right camera for you? Will you be using it more for photos or more for

  • videos? Let us know in the comment section down below. Subscribe to our
