-Hey, we're back. Ryan Reynolds, we love you, buddy.
Thank you so much for doing this.
We really appreciate you doing this.
And I want to talk to you about a lot of the charitable stuff
you've been doing, you and Blake Lively.
But first, talk to me about "Free Guy,"
because I was so excited about this movie,
and now it's pushed.
Do we know what's going on with it?
And what is the movie about, and --
-Well, "Free Guy" is probably my favorite --
I think it's my favorite film that I've ever been a part of.
It really is -- And that says a lot,
'cause I spent half my life working on "Deadpool."
But it's about a bank teller who is -- each and every day
he's shot at or shot, he's stabbed, run over,
punched in the face, hurt, injured, maimed,
all these things. And then one day, he realizes
that he's a background character in an open-world video game.
So he decides to sort of, "I'm going to take the power back,
and I'm going to change this world."
And that's where it goes from there.
Taika Waititi's in it, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery --
-Ah. -Utkarsh Ambudkar --
Like, the best cast in the world.
Like, every single one of them are amazing.
Lil Rel Howery.
-Almost like -- Oh, Lil Rel. Oh, I love him.
-Yeah, yeah, yeah. -Like, so it's almost like
an extra in, like, "Grand Theft Auto"
or something like that type of game?
-Yeah, it's a little bit like if you sort of hybridized...
-"Sims"? -..."Fortnite"
with -- "Fortnite and "Grand Theft Auto"
and sort of created a slightly more wild, stylized,
violent world,
this is this guy who's just not a violent guy
who's just trying to sort of navigate his way through.
It's so funny, and it's just, like, a total fastball of joy,
which I think we need right now more than ever.
So I'm hoping it's released sooner than later.
But I know Disney's super excited about it.
They bought it from Fox, where I used to work, yeah.
And, yeah. And here we go, yeah.
-And it's called "Free Guy."
Is "Deadpool" also Fox?
-"Deadpool," yeah, was Fox,
and then now it is in the hands of Marvel
over there at Disney, yeah.
-And can those worlds be combined,
or we don't know?
-I see so much -- I see infinite possibility in either version.
If "Deadpool" were to be in the Marvel Comic Universe,
or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rather,
I think it would be explosive and amazing
and what a sandbox to play in.
If "Deadpool" continued to get to just do his own thing
and be his own thing,
also just, like, infinite possibility.
And, you know, I mean, we have so much --
-Dude, you made that your own thing.
I mean, I watched that with Nancy,
and I go -- I pause it.
I'm one of those idiots that keeps pausing the movie.
She's like, "Will you stop?"
I go, "He's just brilliant.
That is so his line. That's so him.
He totally just did that. I'm telling you,
we can call him up right now and ask him. He did that."
Like, I could tell --
But it's so you that I just think --
-I love it. I do -- I write it with two other guys,
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are geniuses
and amazing in so many ways.
And we just have so much fun.
We actually write it all right in here
in this room where I'm sitting.
And we just have the best time doing it together.
So we hope -- There's a lot more story to tell,
so we hope we get to do that soon.
-There's a couple jokes that you told me about I won't say now,
'cause I don't want to ruin it if it's in the third one,
but it didn't make it to the second one,
but it was this really, really funny thing that was going on.
I was like, "Oh, they'll never let you do that."
-Yeah, you could fill a gymnasium
with some of the jokes that got cut out of "Deadpool 1" and "2"
that would get us all arrested
or turned into some sort of Disney liquid.
Yeah. -Before we talk about
what charity you're going to highlight tonight,
I wanted to just thank you and Blake Lively
for what you've done.
You've been so generous.
I can't even -- Let me just say some things.
You guys donated $1 million
to split between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada.
That was the first thing I saw.
And I was like, oh, my goodness.
That was just beyond.
Then you donated $400,000
to split between four New York City hospitals.
You've donated 30% of your Aviation Gin's profits
to bartender relief funds in the U.S., Canada,
and you've just added U.K. to that.
That's just cool that you did that.
-Yeah. I mean, look.
It's -- We're obscenely, and I mean obscenely privileged
to be able to do that.
You know, and my companies, Mint Mobile included
and certainly Aviation Gin,
they're companies that are doing well despite all of this.
And if you're a company that's staying afloat and doing well,
particularly the latter, doing well, you've got to give back.
I think it's incumbent on those companies to give back.
You know, and then the food banks --
Food Banks Canada and Feeding America
and the hospitals, those are just things
that, you know, are so essential.
I mean, I grew up in Canada.
I grew up in a super middle class neighborhood.
My dad was a cop, and he had four kids,
and my mom was a student.
You know, we didn't have any money or anything.
But we always had food on the table.
And I remember them reminding us constantly how lucky we were
to have food on the table.
And I knew kids in my school and around there
that relied on food banks just to make ends meet,
not every day but sometimes when things got tough.
And that's something that I think, as a kid,
is pretty indelible. It sticks with you and stays with you.
And so giving back to these organizations --
And we're going to continue to give back to these organizations
hopefully throughout our working lives.
-Good for you, and thank you so much for doing that.
I appreciate what you do.
And, Canada, we love you.
Canada's watching, 'cause I know Canada watches when you're on.
So, Canada, we love you, too.
-Yeah. I love Canada, too.
-Foodbankscanada.ca.
And just anything will help. We appreciate it.
Ryan, I can't wait to see you in person.
Hug the family. My best to the babies and Blake.
You're awesome, pal.
And keep making us smile, buddy.
Thank you so much for coming on.
-Thanks for having me, Jimmy. I appreciate it.
I'll see you soon. -Bye, bud.
