  • hey everyone it's Jennifer from Tarle speech our mini-series is running a

  • little long because i've had a lot of requests our word today is ventilator

  • and i have a great tip for you i think this is going to make everyone's life a

  • little easier here's our word ventilator i'm gonna have four syllables spelling

  • is slightly confusing because we're changing a lot of the sounds up here so

  • we're going to start with ven and to do this we start with the vvv ound your

  • voice boxes on your mouth is slightly open you can be biting the inside or the

  • outside of the bottom lip just keep that air moving out do not close your lips or

  • it'll sound like a b then we're gonna move to that sound the tip of your

  • tongue is between your top and your bottom teeth you can see it and then

  • we're going to move to that end n nnn touch the tip of the tongue to the back

  • of your top front teeth and the air moves out of your nose then ven we're

  • going to link the uh that schwa syllable we've talked about this when my students

  • see that i in the middle of the word they often say e and oftentimes we do

  • use that schwa sound the uh sound relaxed lips relaxed tongue very very very short

  • and then we're going to move to lay just like the word it's the long a here start

  • with the L touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and

  • open your mouth wide and then move to a smile for that a lay lay and then we're

  • gonna end with the der yes we're not going to say that t we're going to say

  • a fast D d to do this touch the tip of the tongue to the back of the top front

  • teeth voice boxes on and then end with that er for those of you that struggle

  • with the er sound at the end of the word think square tense lips not

  • puckered and not relaxed you want them square intense a the tip of your tongue

  • will be pointed down or flipped back whichever one works for you let's put it

  • all together ven uh lay der Venna later Venna later ventilator ventilator

  • ventilator you can also think of this as the word later like la ter like see you

  • later and that is how we pronounce that as well so one more time

  • ventilator ventilator ventilator and now in a sentence the patient required a

  • ventilator for respiration so give it a try
