  • Hold on one second.

  • I need to check the news.

  • See, I need to check the latest pandemic news on radio every 10 minutes or so just to make sure that I'm all caught up on everything.

  • Okay, Nothing new.

  • So recently I was checking my stock portfolio and I know this that I had actually lost about 100 K into stock markets, which is pretty good, actually.

  • I mean, relatively speaking, I could have lost a lot more.

  • What happened was I had about 700 cages city and then the contact had forgotten about.

  • And it's suffered like a 15 20% loss.

  • And now I've just been kind of stuck holding the bag on this and I've been trained by SP y puts short positions to try to hedge myself.

  • But either way, no matter what direction the stock moves is going to be a losing trade for me.

  • But overall, I could have lost a lot more.

  • I know there's people who lost seven figures so saying that I only lost six figures.

  • That's pretty good.

  • And I felt that given my position of relative success, I have a few tips for you in terms of how to invest during this pandemic, as was a few lifestyle tips.

  • So let's get to it.

  • I know that in the recent crash, many of you may have suffered some severe financial losses, and if it makes you feel any better and you're looking for a pity party, then you've come to the right place because, yes, I've lost money, too.

  • Maybe more than you, probably more than you.

  • But what brings me comfort?

  • What lets me sleep at night is knowing that there's nothing to buy out there.

  • Anyways.

  • All of the shops are closed, there's nowhere to go.

  • Airplanes are grounded.

  • You can't buy luxury cars.

  • You can't go to fancy restaurants for your steak or lobster.

  • You can't even take people out on days because of social distance.

  • You can't impress your co workers or anybody.

  • Really.

  • Everything's shut down anyways, so even if you had the money, you wouldn't really be able to spend it.

  • It would probably be better used as toilet paper.

  • And frankly, at this point, you should probably just be thankful that your life and you can play some video games, which is all I've ever wanted to do in my life.

  • So I'm pretty happy at this point, but talking about the stock markets I've been checking around.

  • It just seems that everybody and their grandmother is trying to time the market and buy into the dip in thinking that this is how they're going to be rich in life.

  • And they don't need to work because they're going to use this crash as an opportunity to essentially retire for life.

  • When they buy into the dip ended, the stock market explodes higher, and it seems like everybody is reciting this quote by Warren Buffett.

  • Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful, and so I might be wrong about this.

  • But to me It seems like there may just be too much hope and optimism in the air for us to call this a market bottom when everybody and their grandmothers are waiting to buy the dip.

  • If you check the last crash in 2008 it took us a year to get to the bottom.

  • And then after that, it's been 10 years of bull market, and so I just feel that there could be more room to go down.

  • Personally, I'm not buying the dips, mostly on the sidelines and cash goed bombs.

  • I recently began buying some Bitcoin as well simply because, you know, you hear that the federal government is printing a bunch of cash and so they could be developing the dollar.

  • But at the same time, we don't necessarily know if this is going to be inflationary in a deflationary, recessionary type of environment.

  • And actually, right now there are still some banks offering pretty decent rates.

  • Maybe they just haven't updated their right to the federal government 0% yet, But like Marcus Bank, they're offering 1.5% on the CD for a 12 month period.

  • So I recently opened up an account with them.

  • But overall, the more I look into the stock market tomorrow realized nobody really knows which direction it's going.

  • It could be a V shaped recovery.

  • It could be a downward slope over a long one year period.

  • That's the $1,000,000 question that everybody has undermined.

  • And for you to think that you may know the answer.

  • It's pretty much speculation at this point.

  • And as for myself, that is not the way I like to make money.

  • If you like to speculate, you might so just go to Las Vegas and on black or red.

  • So it feels pretty much like flipping a coin.

  • If you wanna make a small bet, I'm being a bull or a bear and then the mount that you're willing to lose them feel for you, too.

  • But I don't know if anybody would have the sufficient confidence to bet large amounts of money in either direction at this point.

  • And while I was researching this, I also came to the realization of normalcy bias, which is a pretty interesting concept.

  • We're about 70% of people reportedly will display normalcy bias in any disaster or crash scenario where people would just their brain will try to deny the reality, and this can cause life and death.

  • Snails.

  • It's especially pertinent to understand and recognize your brains tendency to imagine that things will go back to being normal or that disaster has not yet struck, according to Wikipedia, Normalcy buyers explains why when the volcano Vesuvius erupted, the residents of Pompeii watched for hours without evacuating.

  • It explains why thousands of people refused to leave New Orleans as Hurricane Katrina approached and why at least 70% of 9 11 survivors spoke with others before leaving.

  • And so I've mentioned this phenomenon before, where in a real emergency is not like in the movies where people are yelling and running around, flailing their arms all about.

  • But rather there's a sense of Erie calmness where people are actually in the state of denial.

  • So just a bit of advice for you not to over panic, but to prepare yourself.

  • Now, speaking of preparation, I've been reading the news.

  • I'm sure many of you have as well, and I've just been following the minute by minute, hour by hour breaking news trending updates, checking every little update on articles that I have seen over and over again.

  • And all of this is in the attempt for me to what To be able to state my opinion.

  • When the governor comes and asks me about that when the president comes in my house and or news reporter comes and asks me for my opinion on the state of affairs and how I'm going to prepare myself like the thing is, nobody ever asked for your opinion on this pandemic, and nobody ever will.

  • Nobody really cares about your stupid low opinion.

  • So all of this research that you're doing is in actionable is pretty much the same as crisis porn that you're doing.

  • It's interesting.

  • It's entertainment and news agencies are profiting off of it.

  • And if you take a moment to reflect on the past 2 to 3 weeks in quarantine, as you've been reading all of this news, then you may have come to the realization that that was a lot of time that was wasted, and there was nothing built up over that.

  • Now you don't necessarily want to push yourself.

  • They're trying to be productive in the time like this.

  • I think it's important to take the time to relax and absorb the information and not overwhelm yourself with stress or anxiety at the time like this.

  • But sometimes I find that it may help to actually focus on something else, something not related to just reading breaking critical news hour by hour, but maybe focus on something productive that it will actually benefit you when all of this passes.

  • This could be a good time to instead read the book.

  • You voice wanted to learn to code, start new side project or hustle or even catch up on recreational activities like working out or just getting more sleep.

  • And one area that's definitely going to be worth your investment right now is your own personal health, because at the time like this, you don't want to be the one who ends up in the dentist or Dr because you have some cavity or you broke some of them.

  • So personally, I've been brushing my teeth and words in my mouth multiple times a day because I don't wanna have to end up at the dentist.

  • I've been careful with any adventures, activities or sports, you know, we know the accident rates tend to go up on weekends because people are usually out doing activities.

  • Just stay at home and play some games where you're going to be safe.

  • Each safe, healthy foods.

  • Make sure you get your exercise in and be cautious of engaging in the sports activities that may be especially risk prone, like rock climb, being motorcycling or even bicycling really fast running really fast.

  • Because if you happen to sprain your ankle, the hospitals, they're not going to have that much capacity at the time like this, you go and you may even get yourself infected.

  • I also have some advice about your living conditions.

  • My presumption is that many people may be living with their parents right now.

  • Maybe you're living over in New York or San Francisco.

  • The cities are huge and bustling and crowd that there are going on to lock down.

  • There are huge lines.

  • The supplies are limited.

  • So then, if you're a young person there, you've been laid off, move back in with their parents, you can save some money.

  • Either way, you're not.

  • Didn't the benefits of living in the big city because it's all shut down anyway?

  • You save on your rent and you can also get the supplies that you need.

  • Your parents probably have a bigger house, so, yeah, Go live with your parents If it makes sense for you, I'm living with my parents right now, but at the same time, you want to make sure to get some space, get some physical space and social distance yourself from other people because it could be toxic spending way too much time with other people.

  • So what I've personally done is I still have sections of this house walled off, even after my 14 day corn time period.

  • And I've just extended that.

  • So I'm not really engaging or talking with any other person, and I haven't done so for weeks.

  • That helps me protect my mental health.

  • And the last bit of advice is this is actually a great time to reflect and take a time out and re prioritize your life and think about what you're doing.

  • And if what you're doing is really going to take you to the goals that you want to get, too, it's a good time to just stop and think about where you're headed in your life and tie up any loose ends and prepare yourself for whatever next chapter is coming for you.

  • You know, I know that for myself.

  • Any time I quit a job, it takes me 2 to 4 weeks of just decompression, where I just have to catch up on all of the old stuff that had been building that.

  • Maybe I need to reorganize my files, figure out what was going on with my retirement accounts on my taxes and catch up on old books and articles I wanted to read.

  • And usually there's just a bunch of miscellaneous stuff that's accumulated in your mind.

  • I kind of like how a garage accumulate stuff.

  • And if you take some time to sort through it, then the important thing about this is that actually clears yourself up so that when you have a new project venture or idea that you're able to pursue that.

  • I think a lot of people that go through life haphazardly like a hurricane and they just go through day by day and they don't take much time to think about what they're doing.

  • Each day is packed full to the brim.

  • Everybody's busy, there's bunch of tasks and chores, and then what happens is when you come up with some project, idea or venture that you think may be worth pursuing.

  • You don't actually have to time to do it because you're so busy out of time.

  • If you take a little bit of time now to just organize yourself, sort things out, maybe catch up on some work that have been piling up, planning a little bit ahead the in the coming months.

  • When you see an opportunity and there will be tons of opportunities, right every problem, there's going to be some opportunity in there.

  • Then when you see the opportunity, you have the time, resources and bandwith to go after that because of good planning and preparation.
