In 1982 a great national design competition was launched by French President Francois Mitterrand, Danish architect Johan Otto von Spreckels and won the commission with his design chosen for its strength and simplicity.
Standing more than 100 meters high ground arch is a cube within a cube designed to make an impact in the three dimensional world.
