This is a Moffett Key lock box.

It's Amazon's choice and Amazon's bestseller for an outdoor key lock box.

I thought that a bit odd, since I had never heard of the product.

So I bought one.

And as soon as I opened the box, I realized why it was Amazons Choice, a moniker which depends in part on a large number of positive reviews.

This card was in the box.

It seems the company is offering a $10 rebate on a $20 product in exchange for five star reviews.

Interestingly, you will not get the rebate if you disclose that you're being compensated for the review.

My understanding is this violates Amazons rules, and it's probably also illegal at a bare minimum.

I think it is a highly unethical way of misleading consumers, but onto the product itself.

It's very average for this market segment, and by that I mean it's not very secure.

So let's change the combination to something I don't already know, And then I'll show you just how easy it is to decode and open.

We're first going to put this in reset mode.

And then I will scramble the wheels while they're facing away from May.

Okay, That should be enough.

Put it back to operating mode, close the door and scramble the wheels one last time.

Okay, that should be enough.

I now have a box to which I do not know the combination.

I'm going to take this fincham of metal, which I cut from 7000 stick feeler gauge and inserted between the lock body and a code wheel.

Then slip it behind the bar of metal which runs across the back of each of these wheels.

I will then pull that bar into the code wheels.

And when I feel a loose spot in the wheels travel, that should be the combination.

Okay, 9644 Okay, folks, as you saw, this is not a particularly secure product.

And on that basis alone, I see this is something tow avoid.

But if I did have any lingering doubts about it, they would have been settled by this little card.
