  • Hi, everybody! It's Richard McMunn again from the police recruitment training website, How2Becomecom.

  • And in this next video, we're going to take a look at the police officer core competency

  • of TRANSPARENCY. I will give you a number of sample interview questions that I recommend

  • you prepare for, and also a suggested answer. I will then tell you where you can download

  • my FULL SET of police officer core competency interview questions and answers workbook.

  • So, if you are applying to be a police officer, as you know, you need to make sure you prepare

  • effectively for the competencies. And the latest competencies are integrity, public

  • service, impartiality and transparency. Now, this video is part of a four part video series.

  • The other three videos here on YouTube, the links to those, are in the description below

  • this video. Once you've watched this from beginning to end, do check out the other three

  • videos, because they are important. If we take a look at the core competency of transparency,

  • what does it mean? Well, transparency essentially means operating with honesty and openness.

  • And these values are aligned to the police code of ethics and conduct. Police officers

  • and police forces must be transparent in everything they do, how they deal with people, and also

  • how they communicate with the members of society that they are serving. So as a police officer,

  • your intentions must always be good and you will need to be prepared to account for your

  • actions at all times whilst you are on operational duty. Now, again, transparency is a competency

  • and a value that will go a long way to helping the police build and maintain positive relationships

  • with the general public and society as a whole. During the interview, it's understandable

  • that the police will assess you against these competencies and the questions that will come

  • right now are the ones that I recommend you prepare for throughout the selection process

  • for the police officer interview questions based on the core competency of TRANSPARENCY.

  • I will give you a number of questions. I will give you a sample answer as well to one of

  • the questions to show you how I recommend you structure them. And I'll tell you where

  • you can download my FULL SET of competency interview questions and answers too. The first

  • question is: Tell me about a time when you responded to feedback from someone else? Being

  • able to take on board constructive feedback you're your supervisors and work colleagues

  • is a really important trait to possess. Here is my suggested answer: “When I first started

  • working for my previous employer, I was given an intensive appraisal after being in the

  • role for just three months. During the appraisal, my supervisor praised me for my strong work

  • ethics and my values. She also raised one area that she wanted me to improve upon, and

  • she included a timetable for the improvement to take place. Now, the area I needed to concentrate

  • on was in relation to call handling times whilst dealing with customer calls and queries.

  • Basically, I was spending too much time talking to customers in my attempt to provide outstanding

  • service. Now, whilst this was obviously positive, it did mean other callers were left waiting

  • on the line. Following the appraisal, I shadowed a work colleague to see how she answered the

  • calls before trying her methods out during my own calls, and the results were significant.

  • During my next appraisal, my supervisor praised me for taking on board the feedback positively

  • and also implementing the required changes.” That's a great answer, because it shows that

  • you are somebody who can take on board and feedback from other people, which is a really

  • important thing to do as a police officer. Police officers who've been in the role for

  • 20, 25 years, 30 years, are still learning all the time. And that's an important attitude

  • to have. You'll also notice that I've structured the answer using what's called the STAR technique:

  • situation task action and result. And that is really important in my opinion, when preparing

  • your answers to the type of interview questions you could get asked during the police officer

  • interview. Some more questions to prepare for. Tell me about a time when you identified

  • an area you needed to improve upon? So this is not responding to feedback from someone

  • elseIt's YOU identifying an area yourself that you need to improve upon. Describe a

  • time when you gave feedback to someone else? So when have YOU given feedback constructively

  • and positively and supported them? That's a great question! Describe a time when you

  • communicated the views or opinions of others accurately? When you pass on information whilst

  • working as a police officer, it has to be accurate. Even their views or opinions, you

  • know, you can't twist and manipulate the. They have to be accurate! Tell me about a

  • situation you were in where you had to explain to others an important decision that you'd

  • made? Describe a time when you maintained confidentiality at work? If you'd like to

  • download all of the answers to those questions, plus the other three core competencies, so

  • you'd be getting this one, transparency, impartiality, public service and integrity. If you click

  • the link in the top right hand corner of the video, it goes through to this page on my

  • website. Scroll down to the bottom and you can download all four packs for just £17

  • plus vat. You know, we've literally knocked about 46 percent of the price. You can have

  • those documents in your inbox within 2 minutes from now created in an easy-to-use PDF presentation

  • file, so you can start using them to create your own answers for the police officer interview

  • questions. I hope you've enjoyed that. Don't forget to check out the other three videos

  • in the description below the video. Please do give the video a LIKE (thanks!) That tells

  • me you enjoy the content and I'll create more for you. And I wish you all the best for passing

  • the police officer selection process. Have a brilliant day. Thank you.
