As part of the multi-billion-euro Copernicus Earth observation project, the satellite will be sent into Earth's orbit from Europe's spaceport in French Guiana. The satellite carries an advanced radar instrument which will provide high-quality images of the Earth's surface. According to the European Space Agency, the mission will image the entire Earth every six days and has a minimum lifespan of seven years.
