It's the model 54 22 D, much like similar products that seems to be a zinc alloy box designed to be attached to the outside of the building and secure keys or access cards.

The mechanism in most push button locks, including this one, is very simple.

Behind the keypad is a sliding plate that's attached to the open button.

Each of the number buttons is over a notch rod that goes through that plate by pushing the correct buttons.

We aligned the notches in those rods with the plate, and that allows it to slide fully.

That, in turn, opens the lock.

But it also means is that by pushing on the open button firmly, we bind the plate against those notched rods, and that's what allows us to decode it.

So because it's not possible to blindly set a random code, I set the code on this about a week ago.

That way I wouldn't remember it.

When I shoot this video, you'll have to trust me on that.

But for now, let's see what it takes to decode this.

We're going to work one row at a time, and I will press each button in that row and then press firmly down on the open button.

But I'm looking for when I probe the buttons.

Is movement under spring tension throughout the entire range of motion?

If I feel any binding, I know that number is not part of the combination.

The only number in this row I felt that on was number one, So I'll press that, then each button in the second row four has some binding, as does 56 is loose throughout the entire range of motion, so one and six are probably part of our combination.

Let's check the third row seven is loose, eight is loose, nine is binding firmly, and that's not our combination.

Maybe there's something in the fourth row that's binding.

That's loose and that is blind.

In 16780 I should note the order doesn't matter.

16780 is the same as 86071 And it looks like we got this open.

So as you saw decoding the ski boxes can be accomplished very quickly.

And because of that, this is not something that I would trust with my home security.
