And what you get for your money is a steel box that's thicker than most similar products.

A mechanical push button lock that can't easily be decoded and unlike many push button locks, requires the numbers to be input in the correct order.

Finally, we have an override lock that's better than what you see on most boxes of this type, but still fairly easy to pick.

The lock is one of three weaknesses I found in my evaluation, but probably the least significant.

You've seen me pick enough locks that we're going to move right on to the more troubling defects.

The second issue is the fact that you can drop this box on its corner, and if you turn the unlock knob right after the moment of impact, the lock will open.

We're gonna head down to the garage right now and I'll show you how that's done.

Okay, we're back upstairs, and I should note that exploit will not work.

If the box is bolted down, and the company does provide both screws and screw holes for doing exactly that.

However, there is also a carry handle, which indicates that in at least some cases the box will not be secured in that way.

I'll show you why this exploit works in a moment.

But first, the third weakness.

It's this tiny little hole right here.

It doesn't look like much, but you can reach through it with a thin wire and unlocked the box.

I'll show you how to do it, and then we'll take the box apart and I'll show you why it works.

Now, instead of looking for a wire to uses a tool, I clipped a bit of the spiral binding off of this notebook that was already on my desk, and it works perfectly.

Here is the little tool I made.

We're going to insert it right through this hole, maneuver into position you can see currently locked.

Now it's unlocked.

Let's do that one more time.

Okay, let's take this apart and I'll show you why that works.

Okay?

The culprit for both the drop exploit and the wire exploit is this bar right here on the drop.

Exploit the inertia of the bar, carries it forward when you drop it, and that allows you a split second to turn the unlock knob and open the box.

As for the wire, we reach in right through that hole, and I can push that bar back.

It's a nice big target, and we can open it up.

So while shot, Locke did get a fair bit right with this box.

They also got a fair bit wrong.

They're all easy issues to fix, but unfortunately the way it's currently sold, I have to view it as a product to avoid.
