This is the small version of the Compton, but if you do need a little bit more room under the shackle, they also make a larger one.

The entire lock, including this 18 millimeter thick shackle, is made from 304 stainless steel.

Now that's great for corrosion resistance, but not so great for security.

You see three or four stainless can't be heat treated for hardness.

It can be work hardened.

But based on my tests, I don't believe they did that here.

And even if they did, it still wouldn't be anywhere near as robust as the high quality, heat treated steals that are generally found in the shackles of bike locks.

But other than the choice of material, there isn't a whole lot to complain about.

Here we have really beefy construction, dual non schimmel locking lugs and what I believe is a disc detainer core with eight disks that hold everything closed.

So let's see what it takes to pick this open.

First thing we're going to do is rotate all of those disks as far clockwise as they will go.

And I'm going to take this pick that Bosnian bill and I made and try to tension off the first disc.

Okay, I think I have it on disk.

One fine disc, too.

Okay.

To seems loose.

So is three.

For I think that's four again.

Okay, there's five.

Five is binding.

Got a little click there.

Six is binding as well.

Okay, I think I have six set.

Seven feels set and eight.

There we go.

Not too hard to pick, though.

Probably beyond the abilities of most bike thieves.

Personally, I would prefer a more robust metal.

But if corrosion resistance is more important than security in your particular application, it might be a lock to consider.
