  • This is the lock picking lawyer, and what I have for you today is a sum been sliding bolt padlock.

  • At least that's what I ordered.

  • When it came in, it had a key that said, Multi safe.

  • And if we peel this sticker back, we'll see the word multi safe and the same logo that appears on the key.

  • So it appears that a relatively amateur rebrand job was done on this lock, but it does appear to be well built.

  • We have a 52 millimeter wide, chromed brass lock body, a disc detainer core, and the assembly methods appear to be quite good, better than I would have expected for the $17 that I paid for it on Amazon.

  • So let's see what it takes to pick this open, and then we'll try to take it apart so I can show you what's inside.

  • I'm going to be using this pick that Bosnia and Bill and I made.

  • The first thing we need to do is rotate all of those disks as far clockwise as they will go now.

  • There's something strange in the back of this lock.

  • The very last disc will not turn so I've turned every disk that will move and let's get this tool on disc number one.

  • And I think we've got disc one, so it's fine.

  • Disc to and get to picking to feels loose.

  • Okay, Got a nice click out of three for his loose.

  • Nothing on five.

  • Okay, six is binding tightly.

  • OK?

  • And behind that is number seven.

  • The one I told you was not moving.

  • Let's go back to the beginning.

  • Two is not moving.

  • Nothing on three four.

  • His bindings very tightly.

  • Click out of four.

  • Five is binding tightly.

  • There we go.

  • Got five set and nothing on six.

  • Not sure what's holding us up here.

  • See?

  • Number two.

  • Oh, there we go.

  • Little click out of number two.

  • And I think we got it open.

  • Okay, let's take this apart so I can show you what's inside.

  • Ah, heavy new pinion trade today.

  • Actually, a couple of thumb.

  • It turns out that Bosnian Bill has a new CNC router and he's getting pretty good with it.

  • I am the fortunate beneficiary of his developing skills, So we're gonna be using one of these new guys to take this apart.

  • The first thing we'll need to do is remove the shackle, and that's done using a thin shim of metal, we need to slide it between the shackle and the lock body.

  • And then once we have it in position, I'm going to rotate it.

  • Ah, 180 degrees.

  • So it blocks the D tent that holds the shackle in place.

  • After that, we can pull the shackle right out.

  • Then we need to get this little plastic plug out that's easily done.

  • And the D tent just fell out and down there is a small set screw which holds this screw retainer in place.

  • I'm guessing that's metric.

  • Let's try two millimeters first, and that seems to work.

  • We only need to take it out just a little bit until this starts to rotate.

  • And I'm gonna need either a queen or a key.

  • Try this key.

  • There we go.

  • Bonus points.

  • If anyone can tell me what this key goes to, I'm talking about the model number.

  • Okay, you can see this screws into place, so we definitely are not going to be able to pry this out like some other poorly made Chinese locks.

  • Okay, let's start getting a couple of those disks out until I have enough space to pull the whole corps.

  • Just gonna put the spacers over here.

  • I should be able to pull this whole thing out now.

  • Okay, We have a very nicely machine corps, and here you can see that solid brass.

  • Here's our sidebar.

  • Put that right there.

  • Let's get the rest of these disks out.

  • I can see what the issue waas I said on the very last disc it would not move.

  • You can see each of these disks have little rotation limiters on them.

  • However, that last one, the rotation limiter fills up the entire gap in the core so clearly that last disc was not meant to move at all.

  • Unfortunately, that just leaves us six active desks, which was not terribly difficult to pick.

  • So not a bad little locket certainly could do with more disks.

  • And those disks certainly could do with some false gates in them.

  • However, I don't know if picking is that much of a real world threat.

  • It would be nice to see a little bit of extra effort put in.

  • It wouldn't take that much to turn this into a much harder to pick a lock.

  • In any case, that's all I have for you today.

  • If you do have any questions or comments about this, please put them below.

  • And, as always, have a nice day.
