  • everybody.

  • Welcome back to Flag Flash Fan Friday.

  • Hope you like the Oman episode.

  • So, as you know, there's a part where I talk about the small mistakes were made in the video or I talk about things that didn't quite make it into the video.

  • We accidentally misspelled the word poisons that place in the desert that has quicksand.

  • We're talking about the Strait of Hormones.

  • I forgot to label the other part of the strait.

  • The Gulf of Oman also mispronounced.

  • I love Fisher.

  • Be honest.

  • I don't really know who that is.

  • I vaguely heard her name in passing.

  • Sorry.

  • You don't actually Let's look her up.

  • Let's see.

  • She was in Scooby Doo and she married Sasha Baron Cohen.

  • All the ball, right, guy?

  • She married him and had three kids with him.

  • Okay, Cool.

  • Yeah, well, I didn't know that.

  • Okay, now I know.

  • And some things we didn't have time to mention in the video include things like the fact that the country is kind of very open and tolerant, relatively compared to their neighbors, but they do kind of have some controversial ways of running their nation.

  • The freedom of press and expression is limited to some degree.

  • You definitely cannot insult the sultan, and the government can kind of censor anything that they deem is too offensive going on.

  • Protests in Oman and some other countries in the area is also very interesting because holding protest signs could get you in trouble.

  • So what some people do is they hold the protest signs on donkeys because the police can't arrest donkeys.

  • Got to mention that woman does have some pink lakes due to the algae and bacteria that are found in the lakes.

  • They're famous for a world renowned book fair, especially known throughout the Arab world and also Oman is famous for the pure bred Arabic horse.

  • According to legend, King Solomon gave an Arab drive a specific horse and supposedly all Arabic, pure bred horses are descended from this one horse, and that's just about it for me.

  • If you know anything else, put in the comments.

  • Otherwise we gotta move on flag time.

  • So without further do you, it's funny.

  • In the video, we nicknamed Oman, the grandma of the Arab world, and a lot of guys from Europe, especially Germany and the Netherlands, were like, Ah, that's a very fitting name because in German or Dutch, you know Grandma is Oma.

  • So Oman, they really thought of that.

  • That's cool anyway.

  • The flag the flag is actually a full red banner with added white and green bands extending 3/4 from the right side.

  • In on the top left hoist, you have the national emblem badge of the Albu Zaidi dynasty.

  • It depicts cross swords over Ah Hajar, the national curved dagger.

  • We will talk about this later.

  • The white color has historically been tied to the imam, or religious leader of Oman, whom has at certain times also been a political rival to the ruling Sultan.

  • It also symbolizes peace.

  • The green color refers to the Jabal al Akhdar, or green mountains, which lie toward the north of the country as well the general agriculture in plant life found in the few semi arid regions.

  • Finally, the red color is a common color throughout the region, meaning many things and often representing the battles fought for the nation, which could also mean thank you, Jared, for making that animation.

  • Now keep in mind.

  • Prior to this woman was kind of led by two leading faction's, the Sultan and the imam it, which was kind of like a constituent part of the country.

  • They each had their own flag.

  • The sultan one was just a red banner and the imam.

  • It was a white one with the Han jar in the top.

  • Eventually, over time, they just kind of like fused the two and then added the green for balance.

  • And bam, the current flag of Oman.

  • Which brings us to the emblem.

  • The emblem of Oman contains a Han jar, the traditional curved dagger in a sheath on a horse bit belt link, and the two cross traditional swords behind it.

  • I believe there either.

  • Called Seif Orca Tara.

  • This is not only the national emblem but also the royal crust of the outside dynasty.

  • Traditionally, the blade was used for a variety of things, like defense and fights and skinning animals all the way to cutting ropes.

  • But today it is mostly only warn, traditionally in ceremonies and makes a popular souvenir for visitors.

  • Yeah, they make pretty souvenirs, but TSA just kind of hates going through your checked luggage when you bring it back to your countries, and they pretty much did not have any other coat of arms before this.

  • This is just kind of what stuck with them ever since the Alcide dynasty.

  • That's just about it.

  • Which means now it is time for geography.

  • Fan mail time.

  • All right, Welcome back.

  • We're gonna do it here in the studio again.

  • And as you know, we always have to get started.
