Just want to let you guys know I just finished writing the next four scripts for the next four episodes. And we will film this coming Wednesday. You know the deal after we film We put the footage into post-production when we got to edit it I sent the stuff to Ken, he does the animations. So that means the next country episode Kuwait will be up on January 17. In the meantime, I kind of want to do this new thing I want to do a monthly world news update I want to cover major events and topics that have happened worldwide on every Inhabited continent because I feel like it's important to not only just learn about this world But also learn about what's going on in the world. But before we jump into it, I'd like to give a shout out to these great new sponsors It's a geography learning app, Joko's Pocket Planet, designed around the australian geography curriculum. This award-winning app is a deduction based discovery game where you play as Joko who has to find aliens that have landed on earth learning about our culture. You have to spin the globe to match up countries, capital cities, flags, and landmarks. The narrative involves different styles of gameplay challenges and adventures that parents and their kids can enjoy together. Played all across schools and homes, Joko's Pocket Planet is a perfect way to Kick-start your geography learning endeavors. Check out Joko's Pocket Planet in the links in the description below. I recommend it, it's a great app especially if you just want to have fun with lots of visuals, I like visuals, I'm a very visual learner. So thank you Joko's Pocket Planet you guys rock! So that being said let's jump into some news! Alright, so here are some of the stories that I wanted to cover our first continent is Africa and the first story is: Nollywood! For those you don't know Nollywood is the term used for Nigerian Hollywood. In the past few weeks, one Nollywood flick has really stood out. "The Wedding Party" is a record-breaking flick that has spent seven weeks at the top of the box office grossing out 1.5 million dollars. This happened shortly after the highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time, 'A Trip to Jamaica' had just premiered. Two record-breaking box-office hits back to back. Now, I know that 1.5 million dollars doesn't seem like a lot. But keep in mind the African film industry usually works on an incredibly independent low-budget format production quality is usually minimal at best and CGI, let's just say- Yeah. But considering this exponential growth in film revenue it really kind of seems like the African film industry has a promising future. So who knows, let's see what happens! Next continent: South America the story: "Phantom" workers as new year rolls in Argentina's parliament has cracked down and has started to begin proceedings on removing "Phantom" or "Gnocci" workers. As in people who only show up once a month to collect their salary checks. The government has now implemented a new attendance control system and has begun removing 160 parliament members from their positions and 30 have already resigned after confronted with evidence of their absenteeism. I mean I get it people always try to work the system, but I mean come on if you don't show up for work That's not good So uh good for you Argentina getting things done next continent, Oceania specifically Australia, and the story: Devil's breath nine backpackers from France Germany Italy and Morocco were sent to a hospital around the Perth area in Western Australia after they had just taken a drug that they thought was cocaine but apparently it wasn't professionals tested this substance and found out that it contained high o seen also known as The Devil's breath which in high doses can cause seizures, paralysis, and unconsciousness. Cocaine and other such substances are illegal in Australia and right now authorities are looking further into this. Next continent: Asia, we have two stories the first one: Iran protests now this story has been going on for over a week So I feel like it's not really new or recent news But basically for those of you that don't know earlier on this year mass Protest has sprung up over 40 cities across Iran the unrest was initially sparked by inflation Rises and corruption which then turned into a fight Against the elite some people even shouting death to the dictator in reference to the Ayatollah the protests are mainly centered around Economic issues however as of right now It's kind of spiraled into more more things the Ayatollah and government have blamed outside enemies for causing this disruption of course They haven't specifically specified on who the enemies are but if you look at Iran's diplomatic measures that you can probably figure it out after sanctions were lifted in 2015 a lot of the population assumed that the new revenue resurgence would trickle down into the population however It kind of didn't and to this day Unemployment is still around 12% the cost of food and other such items have increased the government has also encouraged counter protests by pro-government forces They claim to have squelched a lot of the opposition and as of right now the US is considering new business bans on certain companies that assist the Iranian government. I find stuff like this kind of fascinating I mean if you watch the Iran episode you'll know a few things first of all Iran has a very young modernized population and they've gone through years of living under a government that kind of reluctantly does not want to see change, but the government is getting older, and it's kind of like only a matter of time until the younger generation grows up So I'm kind of interested in seeing what will happen out of all this, but for what it's worth in the past Iranian people have definitely shown that they know what they want. Story number two from Asia: Winter Olympics! North and south for the first time in two years North Korea has accepted talks with South Korea scheduled for January 9th at the Panmunjeom truces own on the DMZ talks will cover details related to issues involving improving relations the Winter Olympics which will be held in Pyongyang in South Korea Details on who will be attending the meetings is still yet to be determined but this is a very interesting move especially after all the sanctions and international outrage against North Korea after all of the ballistic missile tests also considering that North Korea protested the last Olympics that were hosted in South Korea in 1988. It's very interesting that this is the moment that North Korea decides to reach out to South Korea who knows how the talks will go, but the world is watching and we will be updated when South Korea lets us know what's up? Next continent Europe, two stories: the Norwegian Court has backed up oil exploration in the Arctic Norway as Western Europe's largest oil producer recently dwindling oil production has forced the Norwegians to kind of consider Possibly searching other areas after long talks and debates especially with Greenpeace they decided to move forward and explore the Arctic of course it comes with controversy but you know got to make that oil. Story number two: stolen jewels! On wednesday the Qatari Royal jewels were stolen from a display in doges palace in Venice the jewels were worth millions and millions of dollars Police say the alarm was not working properly when the thieves Acted and the alarm sounded off too late after the items were taken It's doubtful that the thieves would be able to sell the items off the black market Due to the fact that you know they could be easily recognized so if they were able to make any profit from it they would Have to take out that jewels individually and sell the pieces by parts. To this day the authorities are still looking and investigating into the incident. And finally the last continent, North America! two stories, first story: the cold hurricane the bomb cyclone has officially hit the East Coast causing more than three thousand flight Cancellations as snow and frigid winds pummel the land. From satellite images, it literally looks like a freezing hurricane. Story number two: marijuana and Jeff Sessions a few days ago Jeff sessions the Attorney General of the United States Rescinded the Cole memo which was put into place during the Obama years this memo basically gave the rights to the states Individually to vote on whether or not they wanted to legalize and decriminalize marijuana By whatever protocol they thought fit as of right now eight states and DC have legalized recreational marijuana And twenty-nine states have legalized medical marijuana This sole act of sessions rescinding the memo was kind of strange considering that the majority of people both Democrats and Republicans Are in favor of legalizing marijuana even Trump during his campaign was in favor of the Cole memo. But he was also the only presidential candidate who was campaigning saying? He would use federal authority to shut down sales of recreational marijuana in states like Colorado. Yeah, I wouldn't do that, no. You wouldn't let him? No. even if you picked them as- Well, I don't know, I mean you're asking me. I wouldn't- I wouldn't do that, no Oh, so you think Colorado should be able to do what it's doing. No. I think it's up to the state Yeah, I'm a States person. I think it should be up to the states absolutely those You know Trump is really not a fan of Jeff Sessions, and you know honestly at this point It's kind of like we have a lot of big problems. Quite frankly, I find it strange that this whole issue is such a central part of contention in our country right now considering how many bigger? Issues we have I mean taking away state voter ship is almost to me it almost kind of seems like a very unnecessary Evasion of like real issues, but anyway politics, but yeah, those are pretty much all the main stories. I wanted to cover I'm pretty sure there are so many more. I could have done, but uh my first time doing this come on Give me a break. It's my first time in the meantime Thank you for your patience and waiting for the next country episodes In January 17th, Kuwait will be out! In the mean time, thank you for watching subscribe if you'd like and stay cool stay tuned (Outro Music)
