I've got something here I think you might be interested in.

BUYER: Is that Dick and Jane?

SALVATORE: This is Dick and Jane by Eleanor Campbell,

the early 1930s illustrator.

BUYER: This is deeply cool. - Yeah.

She did a whole series of mock-ups.

This is one of them.

I ran across a guy who had these and I thought it'd

be kind of fun to buy them.

But like a lot of things after a while,

I decided OK, I'm done what this.

BUYER: Or was it that your wife just told you,

you had too much junk?

Yeah, too much junk.

I purchased three of these paintings

from a gentleman in Northern Colorado.

And I sold two of them at auction.

The amount of money I'd like to get for this piece

is about $700.

Dick and Jane taught children how to read.

The classic line being, see Dick run.

Run Dick run.

Or see Spot run.

Run spot run.

BUYER: This is extreme Americana.

Anyone who started school before the early 70s, these

were the very first book you ever read.

It was a great idea for a way to teach children to read.

It was colorful illustrations of exactly

what the kids were doing.

You saw Dick run.

I just absolutely love them.

What do you want for it?

SALVATORE: Well, given this beautiful, beautiful set

of illustrations with the original artist

notations and mock-up lines and so forth, I'm looking at $700.

BUYER: Normally, something like this would be worthless.

But this is Dick and Jane, so it's got to be worth something.

The problem in my head is what.

And can I give you $500 bucks?

Make it $600.

Let's make it $550.

[sighs]

Damn, it's neat.

I don't know how to describe in my head why I love it so much,

but I do.

And I'm very happy with this.

And I am definitely making a profit at $550.
