  • Hello, subscribers.

  • I've been in earnest.

  • How do you get a really good story?

  • Well, I have a lot to say about that.

  • A lot to say, how to do the interview, and I'm going to tell you that in future videos.

  • But this one thing that I wanted to share with you because it really helps with all of you, whether you are a storyteller or a personal, like so watch stories and that is this.

  • I was working for Pratt Whitney, the second largest jet engine company in America, next to G E, and they had asked me to tell the story of the jet engine and the importance of the engine and how great they were at making it.

  • And I said to the lead guy, It's not about the new cell that covers the engine.

  • It's not about the screws that hold the engine together.

  • It's not about the engine.

  • It's not about the airplane.

  • It's about a kid going home for Christmas to see his parents from school.

  • Everybody stopped.

  • Every story is about the meaning to people, not about the machine or the part or my issue, but your issue.

  • It's about that's what in airplanes about isn't it?

  • Is another example This guy who was one of my great mentors in New York had a job to do.

  • A Springfield, Massachusetts, furniture company at that time.

  • Six stores radio commercial.

  • And it happened that the owner's daughter was raped and the police in Springfield, Massachusetts, treated her gloriously, and he wanted to do something about that.

  • So he went to my mentor and he said, Can I do something in my mentor made a one minute spot that show what the police experience when they're on a beat on the street.

  • And at the end, it said Springfield Furniture Company Result.

  • Springfield Furniture Company's sales in Springfield area went up by 50%.

  • Why?

  • Because it wasn't about the furniture.

  • Really?

  • Yeah, the furniture matters.

  • It was about how you feel about the people who sell you the furniture, how you feel about the owner, how you feel about the place.

  • There's always a bottom line.

  • Ah, bottom line below what you're trying to say.

  • That's what I look for.

  • That's what I encourage others to do.

  • And when I'm doing interviews, I go for the meaning, what you're really saying, How will it affect the person viewing it?

  • You?

  • That's my advice.

  • Little bit of video for my subscribers.

  • Thank you for watching.
