I am a millennia.
I am part off that generation born after the early 19 eighties.
There are a lot of things that are said about us that we are difficult to manage, that rear narcissistic that we are entitled, unfocused and self interested.
I say Let them talk and focus on more important things for instance, on the future, off investing off the investing that me and my jin wife friends start doing with the money we're starting to make.
I've been working for a few years now.
I have saved some money, but I'm hesitant about investing in the stock market, and so are many off my friends.
And here is the reason why I was just starting my third semester and management when the club the financial crisis hit its peak in 2008.
The crisis was a hot topic in class, where we learned about creative ways on manipulating figures and markets.
All that made me hesitant about trusting the financial system.
I asked myself, Can financial Param eaters like return on equity, cash flow or related marketshare really tell us if a company is fundamentally healthy and able to sustain its performance in the future and therefore worth investing your money.
And I think we need an additional indicator to evaluate the long term prospects off a company.
And that indicator is happiness.
As the country off Bhutan started measuring.
Actually, they're forced.
King and I, we have something in common.
He didn't think that the cross domestic product was sufficient to describe the performance off the country, and neither do I.
A few years ago I did some research on the topic of happiness, and I was surprised that following the leadoff Bhutan nations were discussing happiness but not cos why are companies still focusing on financial factors only when it comes to assessing their performance.
Two years ago, a YouGov poll discovered that 37% off working adults and Britain considered that jobs as meaningless.
And last year scallops survey in Germany, you revealed that 70% off employees only felt limited emotional connection to their company and mainly only followed on work instructions even in the presence off positive financial indicators.
This kind of sentiment cannot be a sense off strength for companies, and when it comes to how they look at the workers years ago, corporations were concerned was usefulness, which basically meant that the work made sense.
Then they started focusing on productivity, getting the most out off people, and today they are focusing on satisfaction.
But set a section misses a dimension.
What makes people feel engaged?
What connects them emotionally to their company, their colleagues and their tasks is happiness.
Now I am not saying that Cos aren't paying attention to happiness.
They do.
People in my generation are applying for jobs and companies are doing a lot to attract us.
What I'm arguing is that happiness should not only be a topic for the human resource department, it must become a topic for the whole company and thinking off us millennials as future investors.
It needs also to be public.
I would like to see the level of happiness to become a public indicator, literally displayed next to their share price on home pages.
As an investor, it would provide me with additional security because it would contribute in making the system more human centered, and it would connect me emotionally to the company I invested in.
Don't you want to invest in a company where its employees are happy now?
The next question is how to measure happiness in the context.
Off a company, there is a thing called the Happy Planet Index.
It was calculated by a formula that takes into account for variables experienced wellbeing might supplied by life expectancy and inequality off outcome divided by the ecological footprint.
This formula could be translated and adapted to organizations by focusing on comparable, viable Sze such as expressed Emperor You jobs that section everage long, but you're on the top.
Perceived fairness, off opportunities, employees, creativity and implemented innovations are other similar perimeters.
Companies are getting ready for the digital era.
We keep on hearing that the Reppert development in artificial intelligence and robotics were transformed the economic system and displace many jobs, and that the uniquely human advantages, our creativity, empathy and relational capacity It seems to me that no financial indicator can capture how much off those qualities recite in any given company.
Only something like a happiness index would measure them in the new economy that it's rising over the horizon.
Companies with a higher happiness score at those where I and many off my millennial friends would like to invest our money.
