  • But today's topic is going to be based on the information that's been released today are the new thread Ripper and rise and skews worth waiting for?

  • So today we'll talk about that.

  • Are they worth waiting for and who they're really kind of aimed towards when it comes to these particular processors.

  • Okay, so we've got the 39 50 X coming from rising.

  • We'll start there and work our way up.

  • We have known that's been coming since E three.

  • In fact, we've known that's been coming since, like CEO, So we're nearly a year in the making on that CPU.

  • We've already got all the way up to the 3900 X, which is the 14 cores 12 course something that 12 Court 24th right?

  • That's what it is.

  • Um, and we've all been waiting for the highly anticipated 16 core part from Risen.

  • Um, I don't know what's taken so long for them to build this Q.

  • But nonetheless, it was supposed to be out like end of October.

  • They pushed it to end of November, So November 25th is actually the launch date on that.

  • Now, what's nice about this is that uses the existing AM four socket.

  • So Am D promised that there was gonna be support for AM for I believe they said toe like 2020 Remember, aim for launch back in 2016.

  • So we're now four years into this socket, and they've kept their promise.

  • Believe they said then five years.

  • So maybe end of 2020 2021 ish.

  • But we're four years into it.

  • We've seen considerable improvements over that socket from the first gen rise end to where we are now with 39.

  • 50 X.

  • Now, the 1800 expert first lunch was an eight course 16 threat part.

  • We're not 16 core 32.

  • That's math, right?

  • 32 thread part in the same socket.

  • So kudos to Andy for keeping that under control.

  • Keeping their promise.

  • Meaning you could generationally upgrade if you wanted.

  • Um, for the most part, cause you could still run the first gen rise and motherboard with the newer sockets, you're gonna gonna get some of the features of, like, PC Express, Jen.

  • For I guess what happened to overtime is as rising became a Maura adopted part as market share became tipping back into a M D.

  • Taking back more of the market share.

  • A lot of the board partner started putting more emphasis in quality builds on their motherboards versus where Andy used to be back with FX when rising, first launched because a lot of Mother board manufacturers you could take the same motherboard from Intel on Andy, Let's say and I'm just saying a Seuss tricks here for the sake of they make a MD and Intel products.

  • I'm not saying this was the case with for a suits, but let's just say hypothetically, you had a strict board for Intel on a strict board for Andy, there would be very tangible difference in quality between the 21 would be heavier than beef, your theorems and all that sort of stuff.

  • So although the name may have been shared, the quality allow the brand's wasn't really there, and I think a lot of people would agree with that.

  • But as rise and matured, that sort of change, where some of the most expensive and robust motherboards you can buy now are actually am the motherboards.

  • But you can get a 39 100 X.

  • I'm not positive and 39 50 x but 3900 ex You could run all the way back on like some of the earlier X to 70 year X to 90 x 3 70 Yeah, it's confusing because Intel a name they were sort of fighting over who had the higher number.

  • But anyway, there's backwards compatibility there.

  • A 16 core 32 thread part.

  • What we've seen with 3900 X is that the core clocks are somewhat disappointing.

  • Yes, it's on Sent seven centimeter with 14 centimeter I owed die on their stuff, but seven enemy or process allowed for great i p c improvement I p c over Intel.

  • The same clock speeds is in the Andes favor, but we're intel.

  • Still, obviously is reigning over Andy is clock speed, which makes up for that I p c differential or that Delta.

  • So 4.2 gigahertz was pretty much where, like 3900 ex capped out and so 1800 ex, you could get 233.9240 so you could see over the last 43 to 4 years we've gotten much more core.

  • It's dynamically expanded with core account but not so much clock speed.

  • And that's gonna probably be very much due to the architecture itself.

  • So I would have liked to have seen more clock speed out of 3800 X.

  • I don't expect there to be any more than the 42 were used to with 3900 and 39 50.

  • It's just more course.

  • So where this would matter to you is if you're buying a PC or building a PC specifically for gaming, I would probably stick with whatever CPU probably already got.

  • If you're on rise in and not necessarily upgrade to a 39 50 X now, this is all hypothetical.

  • Still, I have not gotten hands on with this.

  • I'm just going based on the trend that we've already seen with A and B over the last three or four years, where we know games have a diminishing return with core count versus clock speed.

  • So what you can take 10 to find on some of the stuff is the lesser corps count.

  • Si, pues do tend to clock a little bit higher, but I think the highest we've seen so far is like 44 on standard water cooling air.

  • And then getting beyond that, as Steve with Gamera, Nexus has shown, is it takes a lot of exotic cooling and a lot of tweaking to get it anywhere near for 8 to 50 which you can easily get on an Intel part.

  • But this video is not so much about Intel vs AMG.

  • We need to get hands on before we can actually compare those.

  • So the 39 50 X is the top tier rise.

  • In part it's, and the reason why we know that is the 39 60 X is the starting point of the new Gen three risin.

  • So the 39 60 X, which is 10 better than the 50 apparently is a considerable jumpin core counts.

  • You go from 16 cores on the mainstream CPR CPU desktop combo to 24 cores, 48 threads.

  • Now it says on here in the boost frequency and gigahertz up to 4.5, and then it says slash three pointing.

  • So what that means is you're going to probably get single core performance up to 4.5 gigahertz and 3.8 gigahertz term o clock across the entire corps count.

  • So that's why you usually see those two numbers there.

  • So what we're gonna be looking for here is seeing whether or not we can get those cores over clocked to, let's just say, 4.0, gigahertz across the board.

  • If so, that will make the 39 60 x a pretty significant CPU for people who need a multi threading workload.

  • People who are doing tons of projects on their workstations and or giving peces that need massive amounts.

  • Of course Now I wouldn't even go as far as to say this is a perfect gaming slash streaming PC cause streaming optimization in terms of Codex and stuff have gotten so good over the last say, five years, A lot of people were able to stream on much lower end hardware than this CPU is.

  • And trust me when I say the cost of the si pues mean, you better be doing something that actually is gonna leverage this amount of core count and thread count unless you're just enthusiasts.

  • At which point, a lot of times, pricing just simply doesn't matter to be true.

  • Diehard enthusiast wanting the top of the line without justification being needed Now the total cash on the 39 60 x is 140 megabytes cash.

  • That's pretty massive.

  • But given the court count, that makes sense.

  • It's got a T V p of 280 watts.

  • So one of the things that we're gonna be checking remember TDP and Power draw are not the same thing.

  • We will be kind of doing some over clock testing with this, seeing what power draw from the wall is what actual temperatures are.

  • A lot of people think that TTP is a just a straight up figure of this is how much power it draws, and that's they're two completely different numbers.

  • Soapy sea lanes, though this is where they are monsters.

  • You guys remember a few years back the way Intel sort of slices up its stack as it cuts cores and it cuts PC aliens.

  • And then what they'll do is they'll bring a newer generation of a C P with same core count.

  • But then what they'll do is they'll cut more PC lanes to force you up stack as they increase their product stacked with more cores.

  • That's what's sort of shown since the 5000 Siri's up Thio, where we are now with the 9000 series, and it's kind of unfortunate.

  • But Andy, on the other hand, is giving you 88 p.

  • C.

  • I express four point Owens, 72 of which are available via PC devices.

  • So that's Ah lot right there.

  • It's kind of like you could put together one hell of a PC I'II storage based server with that and have gigabytes upon gigabytes of seconds per transfer speed 90 gigabits gigabytes per second, which would be absolutely insane.

  • What's also insane, though, is the pricing of these si, pues that one's $1399 depending where you are in the world, you know, it's only gonna go up from there in terms of cost.

  • That's why I say you definitely want to make sure that this is something that your use case needs these types of this amount of core count because, I mean, that's just pretty insane.

  • Remember, that's where the new Gen bison are.

  • Risin based Red Ripper starts.

  • So the Andy 39 70 X, which is again a 7 90 meter rise in part for a thread ripper is a 32 core 64 thread behemoth we're getting up to, like, these are obviously gonna be, like based off the epic stuff that we've seen over the last few years.

  • This is just being much more consumer friendly, I guess.

  • But they're not designated strictly as a server part which at that kind of was.

  • But this is also the same up to 4.5 single core, and it says 3.7 all course, you're gonna lose about 100 megahertz across the board between all the course, But you're gaining eight cores on 16 threads on top.

  • The way it was, it six and two.

  • Yeah, 8 16 at math.

  • So you're gonna lose 100 megahertz across those 32 cores.

  • So this is where depend on the workload to certain things need core clock versus core count.

  • And I can't tell you whether or not that this is gonna be the right CPU for you, because now we're in the territory of the Saar professional workloads.

  • These are people who know their cads, their servers there.

  • Whatever crazy production software they're using, that might even be proprietary based on your particular business written for your business will know the term whether or not these core counts matter to you.

  • Now it's got the same TDP.

  • It's got a bit more cash to 144 megabytes of cash, the same amount of PC lanes, but this one has a cost of 2000 U.

  • S.

  • Dollars.

  • So am these kind of taken The crown now have the most expensive CP that you could buy.

  • But they're also boasting that the 39 70 ex is up to 90% faster than Intel's, but they're considering comparable HD HD t part there.

  • H E D T high end desktop DT letters and numbers are not my thing.

  • I'm sorry.

  • So what they've done is they've compared this price wise because of 1980 ex.

  • He was also $2000 and what they're saying is depending on the workload in the task, it could be up to 90%.

  • Now, you know those up two figures or something.

  • You've just gotta throw away because in the marketing material like this, cos are just notorious for showing the best up to when in reality, it's usually much, much lower in an overall comparison.

  • $2000 though.

  • Which is kind of funny because we've seen now that there's a trend of Intel actually cutting pricing.

  • I mean, on the surface, it seems like an 18 core processor versus a 32 core processor.

  • It seems like the value is going to be there for Andy, but there's some things I want to sort of talk about here.

  • One of the reasons why we stopped using their risin based editing rig a couple years back or not long after Phil started as she used it like a solid six months, was a 1920 x first Gent Red Ripper.

  • We saw a lot of weirdness.

  • When I say weirdness, I'm talking about USB devices randomly disconnecting and not coming back reboots, necessary memory crashes, blue streams, all sorts of things that were just very first Gen experience.

  • We haven't really gone back to its sense in because it started costing us production time where Phyllis spending as much time diagnosing his editing, Reagan why it wasn't working than actually getting work done.

  • So that's when we ended up switching back to an Intel 9900 K based system because of quick sink.

  • And so it got to the point to where we're now gonna take.

  • This part that's coming is into Intel's not so Nancy's part in descending us these parts.

  • And I'm thinking the best way to actually put our money where our mouth is on whether or not these are the right parts for professional use is to use them professionally.

  • So we're gonna be building a new editing rig for Phil.

  • We're gonna be losing the quick seek quick sink function.

  • But we've also noticed, though, is that when you use quick sink, there is a degradation of quality of the final render.

  • So we're kind of hoping here is that we're gonna be able to brute force method with the amount of cores.

  • How I mean, how comparatively it's it's gonna compare because it's really fast with quick sink.

  • But like I said, you lose some quality.

  • But also too, we do know Premier does like core clock.

  • So it's gonna be an interesting test to see if just having that many cores is gonna allow us to just be able to get more done.

  • We're gonna water cool and all that sort of stuff like I said.

  • We have to do some testing on what the power drives going to be like.

  • I mean, it does become there.

  • That's become a point where a 15 AMP circuit can become overwhelmed by a single CPU like this over a clock.

  • We've got multiple CPU hooked up to that one circuit, so that mining that being a problem, Yeah, we don't want the lights turned off When J Fight isn't with the warship.

  • What's render?

  • I've gotta be able to Outworld warships while you're rendering Don't mess with my power.

  • So that's the kind of the latest news here from a M.

  • We do have Intel stuff coming in as well.

  • It's kind of funny.

  • I don't feel like Intel is necessarily set up to compete in this particular segment.

  • Which is funny because this is where Intel sort of always dominated was in the high court count stuff.

  • Unless you start going into like Xenon.

  • In fact, I think one of the tests would be kind of fun, though, is just a sort of compare the W 31 75 z on that we have here that we've currently got are over clocking competition stuff done with because that's a 28 core 36 threat No.

  • 56 threat part, which is clock significantly lower out of out of the box.

  • But we were able to get a solid 5.8 out of it out of ice water.

  • So maybe you have to do the ice water bucket challenge on both of these just to see, you know, you know, you know it's Steve's gonna do it.

  • So I mean, obviously we're gonna have to.

  • That's just some of the latest third Ripper news.

  • It's just, if you can tell already, if you have a current risin based CPU in a at least a motherboard within the last two generations, you're pretty much ready for the 39 50 X If you are not concerned about PC a four point out.

  • Otherwise, it's probably a part that's not gonna be that important to you, because I find that rise in itself is marketed towards a lot of game.

  • Or still, even though it's high court count and I think there becomes a point where we've already sort of shown that reducing the amount of core clock you get to get more course unless you're using those cores, you're only hurting yourself when it comes to gain your performance and then the thread ripper Parts are straight up workstation part.

  • There's no other way around it.

  • We'll do some gaming performance on that to see how it does, obviously can play games.

  • But I think we might actually see sin damnation return.

  • Will we lose F.

  • P s on the thread rip apart versus rising.

  • So there's any particular test you'd like to see us do with the new AMG stuff before it gets permanently put to use for fill in his editing rig.
