Now we're ready for some football way. Kick off our coverage of the NFL on ESPN with what ought to be Packers Panthers. The ESPN blimp is sailing through the night air overhead, and we are getting sent down here on the ground for this evening's football game. Hello and welcome to Charlotte, North Carolina. I'm Dan. Steve, my good buddy Peter. Oh, keep is with us. And Peter. The story of this one has to be the battle. The receiver position. Well, then, when you have two great receivers on the field, you know it's gonna be exciting. Is a receiver who has unbelievable speed. This guy's built like a 67. Then he takes off. He's on the horizon before you can blink. Nelson is also a first rate receiver. He could beat you so many ways. That's what makes him so dangerous. Certainly one of the great players in this league, I tell you what. Damn, both these guys have potential toe lighted up today. Well, all right. Peter will keep our eye on them as the game progresses. But first, the coin. Tom's head that way. Number two, There's the signal and we're ready. Prysby fix it and we are underway. Shepard decides to take it out of the end zone. Dodges a tackle run down and 24. Shepherd took it out of the end zone. And what? It may have been a little risky. He gets out close to the 20 so it all comes out in the wash on that Cliff. Panther offense will start this drive at their own 24 yard line. Bolden goes in motion number 30 catches it in the flat and loses yards on that one. Peter, unfortunately, we've had some players banged up so far, unfortunately, so as we can see here, we've got the injuries that have accrued over the season. One of these guys was hard to lose. Injuries are a fact of life in the NFL. You have to push on and feel the best security, as has never called on second down and chews up about four on the play. Third down, seven yards to go. Wait, guys covering him. But look what happens incredible. Catch a nice game and they easily convert on third down. That was a good call. Benjamin goes in motion Newton side, and it's good for a gain of eight. Coulson a man playing him close back there. Buddy made a great move to get the catch. Either one. A nice pickup to get them into a second and short situation. Great play. And now they have a bunch of options on what to try next for his second Carrie and picks up the first time first down, tight end to the left. We'll end up losing a bunch here, Dean targeting the ballcarrier early and didn't even let him get back to the line of scrimmage. They put a stop to this play behind the line of scrimmage. Pretty good call by the defensive coordinator. Agreed, standing and it all locked up that will bring up second down third time in a row and gains about three yards. Newton grows over, pulling first on third. Newton played the past perfectly, zeroing in on his man despite the coverage. You know it's all about accuracy in that situation, and the first time he goes down the field, Peter he hooks up with his receiver. Want a throw? Oh, boy, we'll see if they keep up the long game. First down. Three wideouts in the game, number 35 goes in motion. Stuart picks up about two, and that will bring up second down moves. Emotion. Stuart Cats. The Dawson gets past the line bag down at the 16. Stuart used the blocking, but this stingy defense didn't give up much at all on that last play. Not a lot of room on that play. It will be third down well with the defense on this one, but is able to stay one step ahead for the confusion. It's worth another look. You might want to put more men on next. Gets touched off a nice play, man. Lettuces. Where now? The extra point. It's good. The raft gets the signal and we're sad. Graham booms up beauty here. Their catches it at once. Packers offense takes the field and they will start at their own 20 yard line. Williams gets cold on first down and chews up about four on the place. Second down with tight end, right, nice catch, and he's got the first down and a whole lot more working to the outside and gets a huge gain. That's a great play. Great execution. Let's have another look yet past the marker and eventually runs out of bounds. Ah, beautiful pickup, Peter. Everyone on the offense is happy about that play. Definitely call by the offensive coordinator can. It will be a first down. Rogers makes the flow after the play action fake, and it falls incomplete. 25 had superb coverage on that plate. No wonder was incomplete that had potential for some yards. People about defense was on top of it and shut it down. Denial. Their second down coming up. Thanks. Catch on the right sideline and he's got the first down and a whole lot more finally makes the play, but not in time. Let's have another look. You gave up a lot of yards before forcing amount of bounds and Peter, we've talked before about what kind of an impact a big receiver can have on a football game. That's right. Then a lot of people still associate receivers with speed, but right here, height was what did it first down with the split back down eventually pushed out of bounds at 24 Rogers on nothing happening, so he decides to scramble for it. And he turns in a pretty successful play, their nevermore dangerous than when he improvises like that. First go, you can talk to the left and he's in for the score. Rogers has a little problem completing this past. He makes it look so easy, and he's getting paid so much money, then makes you wonder. And there he is with the catch. Well, look, you've gotta nisi job, Peter, and you made a lot of money. What's the difference? The difference is I gotta work with you. Oh, yeah, that's the third time today he's hit a receiver way downfield while his armed income cheated on this team so they might as well get their money's worth its God. There's the signal and we're ready. Crosby kicks this one away. Shepherd catches it back at the one. Tackled at 21 Shepherd got out close to the 20 on that one show. His decision to take it out of the end zone didn't really pay off, but it didn't really hurt him, either. And that'll do it for 1/4 number one. And we're all time the Panthers and an effective first drive, and we'll see if they can keep it up. They'll start at their own 20. Stewart gets his seventh carry of the game and gains about three yards. What a bad second goes in motion for three for three. Stuart heads left down 27 down two receivers to the lamp. Wait knew, but still manages to make the catch. He beats his man cold. It's all about staking your term a nice game, and they easily convert on third down. That was a good call. Number 21 makes a play on this and forces the incompletion. Number 21 got himself in prime position to battle way that football before the receiver even had a shot at that. Had potential for some yards, Peter, but the defense was on top of it and shut it down. Good denial. Their second down coming up. Number 17 goes in motion. New thanks, and this one is incomplete. Third down and four wideouts in the game makes a play on this one and horses the incompletion for sound coming up. Burnett got himself in a prime position of battle way that football before the receiver even had a shot at it. Well, that he holds tied on third and long and forces an incantation. That was a good call by the defensive coordinator. It sure was perfect d for that situation, and it will bring up down number 23. Fields the punt. 16 26. Number 23. Did a nice job getting some yards after feeling solid Packers bring their offense on the field and will start this drive at the ruins. 26 yards. Twitch. Twitch didn't connect on this one. Incomplete receiver. 27 with second down, 10 yards. D'oh! Rogers floats this one out, right? It's knocked away from the receiver. Davis Man away. Look at that coverage that past doesn't have a prayer of getting where it's going. Man to man could be so effective with TV. Can read the play that well on second down. They trying for the first, but it's played well by the defense that will bring up third down. Nice pressure. That's all. Falls incomplete. It'll be fourth down. Number eight lines up to punch after the three and out number eight gets the ball and punts it away. Number 25 catches it 34 stop at 40 25 didn't have much room to work with back there. The special team squad made sure he couldn't respond to that really nice punt. Panthers stalled early last time. We'll have to wait and see. Wait 40 yard line. Stuart loses about three, and that will bring up second down. Right? God, Newton unloads this one laughed, and it's off his fingertips. In complete number 35 didn't quite have that extra reach. You need to bring those kind of balls in. He came close, though. They got a finger on it that would have gotten in the first. But it's incomplete, and it will be third down. Number three first with defenders and comes away with the football. Oh, nice. First down, three wideouts in the game. Good tackles him behind the line of scrimmage. Harry is targeting the ballcarrier early. Didn't even let him get back to the line of scrimmage. That's his third tackle of the game. Stuart picks up about two, and that will bring up third down 47 Newton. It's complete short of the markers, however, that will bring up fourth down. 24 shut down the ball carrier just before he got to the markers. A good game, but not good enough. They let the ball move close to the first, but they could not let it pat. That's a great job on the back and forth and short. Lee takes the snap and punts it away. Number 23 catches it back. 14. Number 23 fielded the ball, and although he was dropped pretty quickly, that terrible kick gives him some good field position. Good. The Packers could take the lead before halftime as their offense will start at their own 14 yard, 16 16. You lips and down in the backfield and the clock continues to run. Second down. One man called 16 Gold Gold 16. Gold 16 brings down the floater, and he's got the first down and a whole lot more. Turn down. 16 16. Gold 16. Rogers throws a Big 34 he stopped right there that will bring up first down, first down and four wideouts in game 16 16 16 60 catches it in the flat and picks up four on the play. Rogers reading the ball back there to his men, right past all that traffic. Good job yet again. Here's it out and finds his man. He's putting up some incredible numbers today. Peter, if you're not at least 10 yards away from you, doesn't even see you. Lodgers throws this one way cut for the score. Rogers grows right past the coverage and into his receiver's hands. Nice throw That gives him his second touchdown of the day. Then he's definitely making his presence felt out there as well as on the scoreboard. Now the point after and it's good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, there's the signal and we're ready. Crosby, Rockets, This one deep number 43 downs this in the end zone for a touchback. The Panthers offense comes out and has an opportunity to tie it before halftime. They'll start at their own 20 yard line. Number 35 goes in motion. Olsen catches the heater left sideline, and that's good for a gain of five. Olsen had a defender close by but was able to bring down the catch. They moved the ball and it will be a second down punches one left of center and maybe picks up one on the play Stuart used to blocking. But this stingy defense didn't give up much at all on that last play. Not a lot of room on that play. It will be third down, third down from the shotgun, puts a lick on the receiver and separates him from the ball. In complete, it'll be fourth down. Ley lines up to punch after the three and out pigs the long snap and punts it away. Number 23 fields the punt, 31 41 that'll do it for the first half of this woman. The Packers are out in front, 14 to 7, and now let's send you to Chris Berman in our studios in Bristol for the ESPN halftime report.
