This idiom could also be rephrased to to go to any length to do something. So you could go to great lengths to do something or go to any length to get something done. All right. Let's continue. If one goes to any or great lengths to achieve something, it means one will try to do almost anything to get a desired result. Okay. Let's take a look at the first example here. The Democrats went to great lengths to try to stop that judge's appointment to the Supreme Court, but failed. Yeah. It means if you go through a lot of effort you try many, many things , but yeah. So you at least tried it. It doesn't mean you'll always succeed. Sometimes you will succeed. Sometimes you may fail, but you put in a lot of effort and you put in a lot of time and you try many many ways of doing it. Let's take a look at number two. He would go to any lengths to protect his daughter. Yes. Sometimes you see this especially in movies somebody say they would go to any lengths to get something done, especially to to protect a loved one. We might hear that. All right. And let's look at number three. They would go to any lengths in order to hold on to their power including cheating , lying, stealing, murdering , etc. Yeah. We've probably heard this before. A lot of people would go to many, many lengths. So to go to great lengths in order to keep power that they've gotten. Okay. Anyway I hope it's clear. I hope you got it. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
