Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Noun Phrase 85. The noun phrase today is
-
bragging rights. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. If we say that someone
-
has bragging rights, we mean and that he or she is entitled to boast about
-
something or brag about something. They have bragging rights. They did something
-
that was worthy of accomplishment. So they have the right to brag about it.
-
They have bragging rights. Okay. Let's take a look at the notes here. First
-
example. When their school won the championship, all the students took
-
advantage of their bragging rights to boast about how they were the best. You
-
know, we're the best. You guys stink. You couldn't beat us. We beat you so easily.
-
We are great. Something like that. They took advantage of their bragging rights.
-
Okay. All right. Number two. Why do so many people risk the danger of climbing
-
Mount Everest. So of course this is an a/b part. A just said that and B would say,
-
some say they do it for a sense of accomplishment. It could be true , but others
-
think the main reason is to have bragging rights. So this way you know, any
-
other time for the rest of their life They're at a party or they meet somebody
-
you know they can say well you know I climbed Mount Everest. Wow ! Really !
-
So they do it for bragging rights. They could have you know, bragging rights
-
for the rest of their life. That they accomplished this thing. So that's why a
-
lot of people think that there's so many people that are willing to do this. Okay.
-
Good or let's look at number three here. Some spring breakers ... Remember the
-
students you know, in the US. especially. They usually get a spring break and you
-
know some of them may use it for many things. But a lot of them like to go down
-
to Florida or other real holiday resorts. Sometimes overseas you know, just to act
-
wild and crazy you know for a week that's off. So let's continue. So some
-
spring breakers like to act as wild and crazy as
-
possible so they can have bragging rights when they return to school. Yeah.
-
In this sense maybe you know, like if it's .... We had a great time. Oh and I did
-
this and I did that and it was so cool and I acted so nuts. I acted so crazy
-
sometimes maybe you know it might make them feel like somebody might think
-
they're cooler if they if they did something really wild or really daring.
-
You know more daring than most other students would do. They may do it
-
simply for bragging rights. Okay. Let's look at number four here. Well
-
don't be so modest. You might as well take advantage of your
-
bragging rights. You deserve it. Okay that could be a very simple way to use it.
-
Anyway, I hope you got it . I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
