The average English person is terrible at grammar, spelling and you know . . . being social.

平均的なイギリス人ってのは、文法とかスペルの理解がヒドくって、それからまあ…社交性も無いんだけど。

For example: If you hear any native English speaker say the word "pronOUnciation" instead of saying it "pronunciation", punch them in the face—hard.

例えば、英語がネイティブの人が「プロナンシエ―ション」ではなくて「プロナウンシエ―ション」って言ってるのを聞いたら、顔をブン殴っていいからね…思いっきり。

True story:

これは実際にあった話なんだけど、

I used to work for someone who would send emails to very high-profile clients in other companies.

昔の同僚で、他の会社に勤めるかなり知名度の高いクライエントにメールを送るのが仕事だった人がいるんだけど、

She was a native English speaker.

彼女は英語のネイティブなわけ。

And her grammar and spelling were so, so bad.

でも、文法とかスペルが本当にヤバかったんです。

A five-year-old could have done better.

5 歳児の方がまだましな文章書けるだろ、って感じ。

So today you're going to learn the very common mistakes that native English speakers make.

というわけで、今日は英語のネイティブスピーカーがよくやりがちな間違いを学んでいきましょう。

Of course there are the annoying ones: they're, their, there; your, you're.

確かに紛らわしいのもあるけどね、they're と their と there とか、your と you're みたいな。

Yes, okay sometimes I have made that mistake.

まあ、そりゃボクだって間違える時はあるけど。

It can be a brain fart and generally we know that those are wrong.

完全に勘違いしてたりする時もあるし、一般的に間違ったって分かるものなんだけど。

But these next five examples of mistakes that native English speakers make, make us sound so annoyingly stupid.

これから見ていく英語のネイティブスピーカーが間違えやすい 5 つの例は、ホントにネイティブにとっては恥ずかしい低レベルの間違いだから

It makes me want to poke my eyes out.

目ん球引っこ抜きたくなる感じ。

First some pronunciation, again it's not pronOUnciation.

まずは発音に関して。さっきも言ったけど、発音という意味の単語は「プロナウンシエ―ション」じゃないからね。

That deserves a punch in the face.

その発音をする奴はブン殴られて当然だから。

But how about this: Ask your native english-speaking friends how do you pronounce that letter.

でもこれはどう？ネイティブスピーカーの友だちにこの文字をどう発音するか聞いてみて欲しいんだけど。

I guarantee you a large percentage of them will say: "haitch".

間違いなく大多数の人が、「ヘイチ」って言うから。

It's not "haitch", no! It's "aitch".

これは「ヘイチ」じゃなくって「エイチ」だからね。

Punch in the face!

もうブン殴ってやれ！

For all you Italians, this will annoy you:

イタリア人にとっては、これはイラつくでしょ。

How do we say espresso?

エスプレッソを英語でどう言う？

We change the S for an X. "EXpresso."

ＳをＸに代えて「エクスプレッソ」って言うわけ。

Punch in the face!

これもブン殴れ！

And I especially get annoyed at "eXpecially".

それにオレ個人的には特に「eXpecially」ってのがイラつくんだけど。

Where are these X's coming from?

Ｘはどっから出てくんだよ、って。

It's equally awful and definitely deserves a punch in the face and defriending from Facebook forever.

これも同じくらいヒドイから、ブン殴りの刑と Facebook の永久友だち解除が妥当でしょ。

This you will see more in text and written things but if you listen carefully sometimes you can hear it.

これはどっちかって言うと書き言葉にした時に目につくんだけど、気を付けて聞いていれば話し言葉としても聞き取れるかな。

What am I talking about? This.

何のことかって言うと、これ。

"So Steve didn't come to the party."

「スティーブはパーティーに来なかったな」

"Yeah, but he would of."

「うん、でも来たかったかも（would of）」

"Sorry, he . . . ?"

「ゴメン、今なんて…？」

"If he could of, he would of."

「もし来れたら（could of）来たんじゃね（would of）」

"Would of!"

「Would of」かよ！

"Could of!"

「Could of」も！

"Would of", "could of" and "should of".

「Would of」とか、「Could of」に「Should of」もだけど、

These aren't things. Stop.

こんな言葉は存在しないから、使わないように。

Why do British people do this?

何でイギリス人はそういう使い方をするかっていうと、

You have to think of the contraction.

短縮形ってのに関係するんだけど。

"Would have", "would've". Would've, would've.

「Would have」から「would've」になって、「would've」「would've」って

Say it enough times.

何回も言ってみると、

Would've, would of . . . would of . . . would of?

Would've が would of … would of … would of?

Is it "would of"?

あれ、「would of」で良いんだっけ？

No!

良くないの！

I guarantee you, search on Twitter the term "would of".

もしツイッターで「would of」ってフレーズを検索したら、

You will find millions of examples of people using this incorrectly.

絶対に、間違ってこの言い方を使っている人の例がたくさん出てくるから。

It's nuts!

あり得ないから！

So just remember, it's not "would of", it's "would have", "should have", "could have".

というわけで、「would of」じゃなくて、「would have」だし、「should have」に「could have」だっていうのはしっかり覚えてね。

Also, native English speakers always get the third conditional wrong.

それから、英語のネイティブスピーカーはしょっちゅう仮定法過去完了を間違えるんだけど、

In third conditionals, wishes or ifs about a past situation;

仮定法過去完了だと、過去の状況を「こうだったらなー」って思うわけだけど、

You have to remember the order.

順番を覚える必要があるわけ。

"If"+"had" with "verb three", right?

「If」プラス「had」に「動詞３」、でしょ？

Or "I wish"+"had"+"verb three".

それか「I wish」プラス「had」プラス「動詞３」、

Or "if only"+"had"+"verb three".

もしくは「If only」プラス「had」プラス「動詞３」だよね。

The hypothetical result of that includes "would have", "could have", sure!

仮定の話としての結果には、確かに「would have」とか「could have」は含まれるよ！

But not with the "if" clause.

でも。「If」の後には来ない。

Oh, what's that?

えっ、何て言った？

Trump isn't very good at grammar?

トランプは文法の使い方が上手くないって？

Shocking!

ショッキングだね！

"If I would have relied on the fake news of CNN . . ."

「もし CNN のウソのニュースに耳を傾けていたら（If I would have） . . .」

So what did he want to say?

ここで、本当は何て言いたかったって言うと、

He wanted to say:

本来は、

If I "had" relied on . . .

「もし私が～していたら、（If I had）」で、

Blah blah blah . . . bullshit.

あれこれあれこれ…どうでもいい話が続くんだけど。

But he's . . . an idiot.

でもまあ、ヤツは…バカだな、と。

Much more commonly, you will hear this in conversation and see it in text conversation.

もっと一般的には、これは会話の中特にテキストメッセージの会話でよく見るけど

"If I would have known!" or "I wish I would have known!".

「それ知ってたらなー！（If I would have known）」とか「それは知っていたかった！（I wish I would have known）」

You can correct your friends now!

これからは友だちの間違いを直してやれる！

You know that this isn't the right way.

これは間違いだって分かるよね。

What way should it be?

正しくは？

"If I had known!" or "I wish I had known!"

「If I had known!」とか「I wish I had known!」だよね。

The next one is:

次のは、

"Me and him went to the pub."

「アイツとオレ（Me and him）はパブに行ったよ」

Subject pronouns. Yeah.

主語で使う代名詞、ってヤツ。

It's not "me and him", it's "he and I".

「me and him」じゃなくて、「he and I」ね。

Remember we're using subject pronouns.

主語で使う代名詞の話をしてるわけだから

You wouldn't, for example, say "Me went to the pub."

例えば、「Me went to the pub」とは言わないでしょ。

No! You'd say "I went to the pub."

そうじゃなくて、「I went to the pub」って言うわけじゃん。

"I did a thing", not "Me did a thing".

「I did a thing」が正しくて、「Me did a thing」じゃない。

And it's the done thing to let the other person go first in the sentence.

それから文章内では自分の前に他の人を先に出すのが普通だから、

So "Me and him" . . . "He and I".

「Me and him」は…「He and I」になる、と。

And finally.

そして最後はこれ。

"I was talking to this one girl. She sent me some textses."

「オレ、この女の子と話してたんだけどさ、向こうからテキスト（textses）送ってきたよ」

. . . Textses.

…Textses、ってか。

Why would you pluralise something that's already plural!

何ですでに複数形のモノをさらに複数化しようとすんだよ！

Texts!

Textsだろ！

If anyone says that, you know what to do!

これを言ったヤツには、どうすればいいか分かってるでしょ！

Hard!

思いっきりね！
