Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel!
-
This is Trang and I'm just gonna get straight to the point
-
Today's IELTS topic is gonna be about:
-
So let's get started!
-
There're quite a few waterways that are very important in my country
-
but today I'd like to talk about a river that I've always wanted to visit
-
Mekong delta river
-
It's one of the world's longest rivers
-
flows through our neighbor countries
-
China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia to Vietnam
-
then drains into the East Sea through 9 mouths
-
That's why it also has the name: 9 dragons river
-
Mekong delta is a vast maze of rivers, swamps and islands
-
located in the Southwestern region of Vietnam
-
It has a myriad of uses in the region it passes through
-
The reason that I think Mekong delta is
-
one of the most important rivers in my country is because
-
first of all, Mekong and its tributaries are essential
-
to rice production and agriculture in Vietnam
-
because as you might already know
-
rice is the staple diet of our country
-
Apart from rice, the delta also provides various seafood species
-
to the local economy
-
Second of all, Mekong River is a hub for Vietnamese culture
-
and a major transportation route for people living in the area
-
as well as for tourists traveling to Vietnam
-
Lastly, Mekong delta offers many exciting
-
excursions, activities and attractions
-
The floating market is definitely a highlight that's worth visiting
-
Tourists can buy different types of commodities that are locally produced
-
directly from the boats
-
Furthermore, you can take a sampan ride
-
that meanders through small villages
-
and experience beautiful tropical scenery
-
and amazing cuisine from real life of the Mekong people
-
Those are the reasons that I think
-
Mekong delta is critically important to my county
-
There you go!
-
That was my example answer for the IELTS topic:
-
“Describe a major river in your country”
-
I don't have any quotes that I like related to river
-
but I'd like to share with you some interesting river idioms today
-
1st idiom: "Up the river without a paddle"
-
means that you're in a very challenging or difficult situation that can not be easily resolved
-
or you're totally not prepared for this situation
-
For example
-
"I think I'm gonna start saving from now on
-
just in case if I got fired
-
I don't want to be up the river without a paddle"
-
2nd idiom: “sell (someone) down the river”
-
if someone sell you down the river
-
that means they betray your trust
-
or they didn't do what they promised to you
-
For example:
-
"The police raided the gangsters den and arrested them all
-
Apparently, someone had sold them down the river"
-
3rd idiom: “Cry me a river”
-
this one is my favorite
-
You normally use this idiom to someone that complains or whines a lot
-
for example:
-
If your friend always complains:
-
"OMG, I don't have any clothes to wear!!!"
-
You can say:
-
Cry me a river! You go shopping all the time!
-
That's it for today!
-
I hope this video was helpful for you guys
-
Please let me know in the comment section down below
-
if you've been to the Mekong delta or not
-
and how was it?
-
I'll see you next time, bye!
