  • hey guys welcome to vlogmas day twenty five more  days till christmas uh not that that's anything

  • exciting here in japan because nobody really  does anything but it's still kind of cool um

  • but yeah today i'm gonna do a q and a video and  i've also got this gigantic box of goodies from

  • france that i really really really want to trygot it all ready and i open it up and look at how

  • many things are in here it's so heavy and there's  an adorable cat christmas card on top so um yeah

  • i'm going to do the q a first and then i'm going  to get to opening these yummy goodies from france

  • so let's get started what's the scariest  experience that you've had while in japan

  • um that would be hands down my old apartment where  i used to live in chiba prefecture in the summer

  • the walls on the outside of my apartment would get  covered in um oh what are they called in english

  • these really gigantic spiders huntsman spidersthink they're freaking huge like bigger than this

  • and there would be about five of them stuck to the  wall outside of my apartment like near the door

  • and i would like i would stand there waiting  to get into my apartment try to figure out

  • how i could run past these spiders without  them like jumping on me and sometimes i'd

  • be standing outside like at nighttime for  half an hour contemplating how to get in

  • um yeah for someone that's terrified of spiders  that was really really horrible those things are

  • so fast and like it's not a species of spider that  i'm familiar with so i don't know if they jump or

  • i don't know man but i had one chase me down the  sidewalk once so they're not scared of humans

  • and yeah that was hands down the most  terrifying experiences you've had so far

  • favorite pokemon i mentioned this in another video  paris and raichu do restaurant leftovers exist in

  • japan like can you bring food home with you if you  don't finish your meal no not usually the idea of

  • taking food home with you isn't really a thing  here and most restaurants will refuse to let you

  • do that because there's a chance that you could  get food poisoning if you leave it out and don't

  • refrigerate it properly and then they're scared of  getting blamed for that that's what i've heard the

  • reason is so yeah you can't really bring food home  here i'm sure there are a couple of restaurants

  • um that will let you more of like the foreign ones  like maybe fridays or some of the like steakhouses

  • um but most restaurants know a couple of you  asked if i could continue my daily vlogs forever

  • probably not just because it doesn't leave  me much time to work on my main channel

  • however i am trying to grow this channel so i will  try to do as many vlogs as possible over here i've

  • kind of gotten used to doing it every day so i'll  try to put out at least three videos a week over

  • here if i can wish me luck what were some of your  favorite bands when you first moved to japan i

  • think i mentioned some of them over in my how to  learn japanese video or how i learned japanese

  • video but juku which is japanese for 19.  so they write their name like one nine

  • asian kung fu generation rad wimps uh diran grey  bump of chicken such a weird name those are some

  • of the top ones that come to mind how did you  decide maro's name um maro's name comes from

  • the japanese word for marshmallow which is  mash maro so it's the ending of marshmallow

  • because he's fluffy what made you want to go study  in japan of all places and was your first year in

  • japan as amazing as you expected it to be well my  first year in japan i was 19 i think and yeah that

  • was probably like one of my best years in japan  it was the most challenging because i didn't

  • bring enough money with me so at one point i had  like 10 cents in my bank account and i was so

  • lucky because i remember that that week i was like  freaking out trying to figure out what to do and

  • um somebody came up to me on the street was  like hey do you want to be an english teacher

  • that's a guess yes i do and that's how i got my  first job here actually i used to live in the

  • countryside and there weren't many foreigners so  i guess they were excited to see a foreigner and

  • they figured that um i could speak english andwould be good for the job so i was really lucky

  • um but yeah my first year was definitely one  of my best years here just because it was so

  • exciting everything was new and fun and i kind of  missed that so i think in the future i'll probably

  • go to another country just because i really  like experiencing new things and i really hope

  • i get the chance to move somewhere else in the  future um but i chose japan for my first place

  • to come because i've spoken japanese for a while  i started studying japanese when i was like 14 or

  • 15 or something i can't remember in high school  and i had lots of japanese friends in canada

  • so japan was kind of like always my second homehad come back and forth here several times before

  • i decided to move here so yeah i recently started  learning japanese and have almost gotten the basic

  • hiragana down is it necessary for me to learn  katakana as well or should i go on to words and

  • kanji um definitely do katakana second next to  hiragana it's probably one of the most important

  • alphabets because even if you don't speak japanese  if you can learn the katakana alphabet and how to

  • read it most of the katakana words are english  words so if you can pronounce it for example

  • like chicken you can see that it says chicken  and you can figure out that it's chicken even if

  • you don't speak japanese so learning katakana  is very helpful for things like foods and like

  • everyday household items like taburu or terebi  and stuff like that so yeah definitely go with

  • katakana next it's a lot easier than kanji  kanji is kind of like an endless process so

  • get your hiragana katakana down and then you  can work on starting kanji and just do that

  • for the rest of your life because it'll never  end can you drive also what's your favorite car

  • i don't have a license here in japan so i can't  drive here my favorite car is probably the skyline

  • r34 two 32 or 34. one of those what was the  hardest part about moving to japan and adapting to

  • life there um probably all the like paper work  kind of stuff like applying for health insurance

  • applying for a bank account all those kind of  things because it was all words that i wasn't

  • really familiar with so every time i would have  to do any of that boring kind of stuff i would

  • be kind of confused and end up having to look up  lots of words so that was probably the toughest my

  • conversational japanese has always been really  good but for stuff like that it's always been

  • kind of difficult for me so yeah all that kind  of like non-fun stuff that you have to do as a

  • person who lives by their self that was probably  the hardest part what color would you never

  • dye your hair probably dark gray because that  looked horrible and i'm so glad that it's gone

  • what do you use on your skin to keep it looking  so youthful i don't really use anything like super

  • fancy or anything it's probably because  i don't go out in the sun much and if i

  • do i always wear sunscreen i think that's  probably the most important thing because if

  • you town a lot you get lots of wrinkles and your  skin starts to look really dry so yeah stay away

  • from the sun or protect your skin from it if  you restart it on a deserted island what's the

  • one thing you take with you maro definitely maro  if he doesn't count as a thing then i would take

  • my phone so that i can play nekowatzmi do you plan  to go back to canada to live or do you consider

  • japan to be your permanent home now uh yeah i will  go back to canada eventually i don't want to live

  • here just because i feel like it wouldn't be very  convenient um when i'm older i don't really think

  • the pension system and the health system are very  good here so i would go back to canada for sure

  • not sure when but eventually is it easier to  eat fairly healthy in japan compared to canada

  • or america um i can't speak for america because  i've only been there a couple times and i'm not

  • really sure what kind of foods are available there  but it's definitely a lot easier to eat healthy

  • in canada actually we have lots of health food  stores lots of people are vegan and vegetarian

  • so that kind of like vegetable culture is a big  thing there's lots of restaurants with tons of

  • vegetables and it's kind of hard to find dishes  here that have vegetables in them which sounds

  • really weird but most of the dishes are like rice  meat and then a little bit of vegetable as a side

  • dish or like a little salad or something so yeah  i found it a lot easier to eat healthy in canada

  • how did your family react when you first decided  to move to japan um well they weren't i don't

  • think they were very surprised um i had gone  back and forth to japan probably twice a year

  • for several years before i decided to move here  i'm sure they're sad and they wanted me to stay in

  • canada but they've always been really supportive  so it's not like they were like doco or anything

  • what do you think of japanese fashion  well there's so many different types

  • of japanese fashion it's kind of hard to just  imagine one and say what i think of it but i

  • really really like the super colorful harajuku  fashion i think it's really cute and i like to

  • just take like pieces of it and include it in my  wardrobe uh the whole look doesn't really suit me

  • but i like to include pieces of it and i just  love the colorfulness i think it's super cute

  • charlotte you have a dream cosplay or a dream jay  fashion outfit um dream cosplay would probably be

  • goo from final fantasy cute one with the bikini  um and the scarf i'd probably have to lose a

  • lot of weight to look cute in that but one daywould really like to cosplay that outfit i love it

  • what's your natural hair color um i think i had my  natural hair color for about a year or two in my

  • videos i think um in the videos where i'm wearing  a kimono if you search for like charlotte kimono

  • you can see my natural hair but it's like a really  dark ashy blonde really really dark close to brown

  • but um if i go in the sun for a bit it'll kind  of get some blonde highlights in it it's all

  • right but i just didn't really like the shade  of it i like my hair to be a little bit lighter

  • um something like this my natural hair is a little  bit too dark for me do you turn into umaru-chan

  • when you are at home and not recording yes  favorite sweet slash dessert you've tried in japan

  • this is a really hard one i've been thinking  about making a top like six desserts to try in

  • japan kind of video but it's been so hard  to make a list of my top ones because i

  • literally like everything here the desserts here  are so good all of them i don't even like cake but

  • i like japanese cake because it's not as sweet  and the icing isn't gross like it is in canada

  • honestly they're all good if i could just pick  one off the top of my head maybe pudding japanese

  • pudding is really nice it's kind of more of like  an egg custard but it's so good do you prefer

  • loose leaf tea or bag tea um loose leaf tea always  seems to taste better i don't know why i guess it

  • depends on the brand probably because it's usually  more expensive stuff um but i usually use bag tea

  • because i'm lazy and i don't want to put it instrainer do you have a favorite kind of dog if you

  • do what kind i'm not really a dog fan i don't  dislike them or anything i just don't really

  • like them i don't know if i had to get a dog  it would be a pomeranian because they look the

  • closest to cats okay i think that's enough  questions this is probably gonna be like 20

  • minutes long so sorry for the long video because  this video got so long i think i'm going to split

  • it into two parts so this will be the q a part and  if you want go watch the video where i open up my

  • box of french snacks and try them outwill post it at the same time as this one so

  • i'll link it right here so go check  that out thanks for watching guys bye

  • foreign
