Hello, O'Shea.
-
Hey.
-
Good to see you.
-
I hear that you went out.
-
You were out later than me.
-
Yeah.
-
What time did you get home?
-
Probably about 2, 3.
-
Nice 8:45 pick up.
-
So it was a rough night.
-
But it was a good time.
-
Yeah.
-
Which parties did you go to?
-
Where do you go?
-
WME.
-
I'm a client of theirs.
-
And so I got to attend those.
-
But it's always fun.
-
I get to go and be a bit of a groupie.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
I get to see, of course, Leo and Paul Rudd.
-
I love Paul Rudd.
-
I love Paul, too.
-
I got to talk to Rami Malek.
-
It was really a popping night.
-
Yeah.
-
That's what's great about the Globes.
-
It's people from every industry.
-
It's film, television, music.
-
It was--
-
Yeah.
-
But you?
-
Yeah.
-
I mean, you cleaned up.
-
You brought home some hardware.
-
I did.
-
I did.
-
Would you like to hold it?
-
It's heavy.
-
Yeah.
-
Please.
-
Yeah.
-
It's nice.
-
One day.
-
Yeah.
-
But I've been such a major fan of you.
-
Like I told you before, I know you as Ellen Morgan.
-
And EDtv?
-
EDtv, you have a quote in there.
-
It says that you are the golden goddess of television.
-
And I think everyone will agree.
-
Oh, my God.
-
Thank you.
-
[CHEERING AND APPLAUSE]
-
Thank you.
-
Yeah.
-
You have a two-year-old daughter.
-
Yeah.
-
And that must be really fun.
-
Like, holidays, that's what it's all about, right?
-
Yeah.
-
Did you go crazy this year?
-
See, Dada has some checks now.
-
So I was able to--
-
I pretty much destroyed Christmas.
-
You know, I was killing Christmas.
-
Like, my family, everybody gets one cool gift.
-
But Jordan got all of the gifts.
-
Yeah
-
I destroyed.
-
She got a new tent that she likes.
-
She likes her little Barbie bikes.
-
Anything pink is pretty much on the market.
-
I was loving it.
-
It felt pretty good.
-
That's great.
-
That's great.
-
And Ice Cube is a grandpa.
-
Yeah.
-
[LAUGHS]
-
How is Ice Cube as a grandfather?
-
He's pudding.
-
Yeah?
-
Just mush.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
He loves it.
-
He's getting a kick out of it.
-
Every now and then he'll stop me and he'll be like, "Hey, man.
-
You got a great daughter."
-
And I'm like, "Thanks, Dad."
-
But she yells at him.
-
Whenever his phone rings, she'll just automatically, "No,
-
Granddad!"
-
And he has to take phone calls in the other room because
-
of the two-year-old.
-
Good for her.
-
[LAUGHS] Real strong.
-
She's right.
-
She's right.
-
All right.
-
So Just Mercy, we have to talked about this movie, which is so--
-
not just a great movie, but an important movie
-
because it's a true story.
-
And I just hope everybody sees it
-
because this is unbelievable.
-
And tell everybody what it's about.
-
Just Mercy is based off a book of the same title
-
by Bryan Stevenson.
-
And it's the story of him getting Walter McMillian,
-
a man who was wrongfully accused of a murder, off of death row.
-
And Bryan Stevenson is a real life superhero.
-
Some of the work that he's done to save
-
lives, you know, people who feel that they are hopeless,
-
that they don't have a voice, he stood up and gave these people
-
their lives back.
-
The EJI and everything that they do--
-
they invited me to this beautiful banquet
-
where I got to meet a man who was incarcerated
-
for 50 years for something he didn't do.
-
Unbelievable.
-
You can hear it in their voice that they
-
can't believe they're free, you know,
-
to be able to tell their story.
-
To see these grown men have that shake,
-
you know, that shake when they speak.
-
And it touches you.
-
And a lot of times, we have films or movies
-
that are popcorn movies to kind of escape from everything.
-
But this film, it kind of wakes people up.
-
And I hope that it inspires many more Bryan Stevensons.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
And we have him on the show this week with Michael B. Jordan.
-
And did you know Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx before?
-
[LAUGHS] I had met Michael B. Jordan.
-
But I got to meet him on set, of course.
-
But Jamie, I knew.
-
I met Jamie Foxx one time.
-
I was probably 19, 20.
-
I was doing some Christmas shopping.
-
And I walked to the Gucci store to get my mom some glasses.
-
And Jamie Foxx is in the Gucci store, twirling a cane.
-
And I go up to him and introduce myself.
-
And he raps all of my dad's song Gangsta Gangsta
-
to me in its entirety.
-
And then a woman comes out of the wall in the Gucci store
-
with mimosas.
-
It was the craziest thing I'd ever seen.
-
[LAUGHS] It was wild.
-
I didn't even know-- where's the alcohol in the Gucci store?
-
Yeah.
-
But, yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
This was my first time interacting.
-
That's a good memory.
-
Yeah.
-
That's a good way.
-
I agree with you.
-
It's a very important film for everyone to see.
-
It's called Just Mercy.
-
It's in limited theaters now and opens everywhere Friday.
-
We'll be right back.
