  • -You gave me one of my favorite phrases ever,

  • by the way, when we were playing a game on our show.

  • You said -- do you remember when we were playing?

  • -Not today, Satan. [ Laughs ]

  • -"Not today, Satan."

  • "Not today, Satan" was one of the best things,

  • everybody in my office said it for weeks.

  • Months after you left. We were obsessed with that.

  • Anytime anything came up, we were like,

  • "Oh, no, no, no, not today, Satan."

  • -[ Laughs ] -Is that something you say,

  • or you just made it up on the spot?

  • -No, that's like a classic black church, like declaration.

  • -Oh.

  • -And I used to say it a lot at, like on set,

  • when they would, like in the good old days

  • when we would be on set and they would walk by

  • with like a plate of some amazing-looking cookie

  • that I knew would destroy my two-hour workout

  • I had done that morning,

  • I was like, "Not today, Satan."

  • [ Laughter ]

  • -I want to talk about "Little Fires Everywhere."

  • -Yeah. -How cool is this?

  • This is -- by the way, two of my favorite people,

  • you and Reese Witherspoon, getting together.

  • I mean, sign me up.

  • You guys could read the phone book and I would watch that.

  • -[ Laughs ] -For real.

  • -I love her. I feel the same way about her.

  • I just -- I love everything she does with Hello Sunshine.

  • -Yeah, me too. -I think she's so smart,

  • so funny, and so kind and so amazing.

  • I just adore her.

  • -I love the title "Little Fires Everywhere."

  • But do you want to explain what the show is about,

  • or the series is about? -Yeah.

  • Yeah, so it's about two women,

  • really, who could not be more different

  • in terms of how they parent, from racially,

  • economically, socially.

  • They're just like such different women who normally

  • would never be in each other's lives.

  • But they get thrust into each other's lives.

  • And their daughters actually become obsessed with

  • the other mother, and it kind of unravels both families.

  • So it's a lot about family secrets.

  • It's a big mystery drama of who set this fire

  • that we discover at the top of the show.

  • And it's about kind of the impact that

  • mothering and daughtering and parenting

  • can have on families.

  • It's really special.

  • -Yeah, I love the first episodes with this,

  • where you kind of find out that Reese's house is burning down.

  • -Yeah. -They're like, "It's not --

  • This is not a thing, this is set --

  • Little fires were set everywhere.

  • -Yeah. -It's like...

  • -Yes. What is that? -Wow, come on!

  • I love a good story. You can't beat a good story.

  • Kerry, every time we have someone come on the show,

  • we ask them to bring up a charity or something that

  • they're working with or something that's close to them.

  • You brought up MedShare.

  • -Yeah. -What is MedShare?

  • -So MedShare is -- I love that you're doing this, by the way,

  • and helping people contribute to all these charities.

  • It's really generous, Jimmy.

  • So MedShare's been around for a long time, for like ten years,

  • and they have always served hospitals

  • in underserved communities.

  • So providing support in communities where

  • hospitals just don't get enough funding.

  • And so they really stepped in obviously

  • in these COVID-19 times,

  • and when I reached out to them,

  • I said that I wanted to be able to donate a larger amount

  • to -- specifically to hospitals in the Bronx.

  • And so, because that's where I'm from, it's my hometown,

  • and New York is the epicenter, and I knew that the numbers

  • in New York were probably being undercounted

  • and definitely underserved.

  • So MedShare has allowed me to provide extra resources

  • for hospitals in the Bronx -- Montefiore and BronxCare.

  • -Yeah, it is unbelievable, when you --

  • and I know you're from New York, to watch the news

  • and see what's going on at these hospitals.

  • I mean, people are just doing their best

  • to get through this thing.

  • And oh, man, it is just,

  • I've never seen anything like it.

  • It's just really kind of unbelievable.

  • And just everyone's stepping up

  • and becoming heroes.

  • It's kind of a beautiful thing to see.

  • -And also I think in this time,

  • like, our mental health is so important.

  • And when we give, we feel better.

  • Like, giving, whether it's calling your congresspeople

  • to fight for paid leave for workers

  • and sick leave for all workers,

  • like, that doesn't require any money,

  • but it's something you can do that will help save lives.

  • Like, that -- just trying to think --

  • and there are so many resources online --

  • "Like, what can I do, even if it's small?

  • Because it will be good for other people,

  • but it will also be good for me.

  • because it will help me feel like I'm part of

  • the solution and part of our global community right now."

  • -It does make you feel good. And thank you so much,

  • Kerry, for coming on our show, and for talking about

  • "Little Fires Everywhere" and everything.

  • -Thank you for watching, thank you for watching.

  • We're so happy that you're watching and talking about it.

  • -Every single thing.

  • You know, I follow you, your whole career, but...

  • I can't wait to see you in person, okay?

  • -I know, I can't wait to hug. -Yeah, I do.

  • -Send my love to your family. -I will.

  • -Bye, pal. -Bye.

  • -Love you. -Love you.

-You gave me one of my favorite phrases ever,
