This is the lock picking lawyer, and I recently found this interesting, unbranded lock on E Bay.
-
It's a cam lock like you'd find on a Cabinet or a piece of furniture, but instead of the key, we have an electronic keypad.
-
I installed it on this aluminum plate just to make it a little easier to demonstrate.
-
Once you enter the correct code, the entire keypad operates like a knob, allowing you to turn the cam to the unlocked position.
-
After a second or two, it automatically re locks.
-
It's an interesting concept, but unfortunately the designers made a critical error.
-
The mechanical component that keeps this from rotating when locked is a sullen oId down here in the lower left hand corner that's essentially a small electromagnetic actuator.
-
And as I've shown you in past videos, if an internal magnet can open the lock, so too can a sufficiently powerful external magnet.
-
Let's give that a try right now.
-
Currently locked, unlocked, locked, unlocked.
-
So while this is certainly an interesting concept, the execution is deeply flawed, leaving this open to a very fast and very easy bypass.
-
In any case, that's all I have for you today, If you do have any questions or comments about this, please put them below.
