-I was trying to do standup -- I remember this --
-
when "Late Night" first started.
-
And I was out trying to do standup.
-
And I snuck in.
-
I asked Bobby Slayton if I could open for him.
-
And he was like, "Oh, yeah, absolutely.
-
Yeah, sure. Don't worry about it."
-
So, I go, "Alright. So, I snuck in.
-
And I go to do my act, and it's terrible.
-
You know, I don't know what it is,
-
what order it is, if it's funny.
-
And who's there? Robin Williams comes to see me.
-
-Oh, that's terrible.
-
-I go, "Dude, what are you doing, man?
-
I'm working it out. I haven't --"
-
He goes, "Oh, I don't mind. I just want to hear it.
-
Come on. Come on, just do it. It will be funny.
-
Come on. I'll sit in the back."
-
And then I was like -- I go,
-
"I think I do an impression of you in my act."
-
He's like, "Oh, oh, yes.
-
It's a beautiful thing. Yes, go do it.
-
Go do it. Yes, go do it, my man! Yeah, thank you!"
-
You know? And he started --
-
And, so, I was doing my act, and it was bombing,
-
except for one guy laughing in the way back,
-
and it was Robin Williams laughing his head off
-
at me bombing.
-
-Yeah, yeah, I love that.
-
By the way, I have a Robin Williams great story, too.
-
-What?
-
-I followed him at the -- It's not that great of a story.
-
But I followed him at the Improv
-
when I was young, when I was like 22.
-
And he killed, and I went up and I did reasonably okay.
-
And it was kind of like the big moment.
-
Like, "Sandler. Sandler followed Robin Williams.
-
He held his own, man."
-
And it was such a lucky, like --
-
He was, like, nice to me at the end of his show.
-
He said, "Be good to the next comedian."
-
Blah, blah, blah.
-
You know, he did the right thing for a --
-
-That's a big moment in a standup's life.
-
-Yeah, yeah, yeah.
-
That was amazing. -No way!
-
-He was such a great sweetheart, man.
-
I ate dinner with Robin Williams
-
and a table filled with great actors, right?
-
And everyone's hanging out.
-
Literally nobody spoke but Robin,
-
and everybody was slamming the table, laughing the whole time.
-
He was so incredible and sweet, man.
-
-Gosh, I love when I see someone kill that hard, you know?
-
Especially at, like, a dinner or something like that.
-
-Oh, yeah. He just took over. I was just like, "Oh, my God!
-
Robin Williams cannot stop destroying everything
-
that got brought out."
-
Like, "Oh, chicken."
-
And he'd have five minutes on the chicken.
-
And it was insane.
-
-You know, everyone selected a charity,
-
'cause everyone needs our help right now.
-
And, so, you're working with directrelief.org,
-
and I think it's awesome, 'cause this is
-
helping out all the healthcare workers
-
and the nurses and the doctors,
-
who desperately need everything.
-
They need masks. They need food.
-
They need just -- I'm telling you, man.
-
I've seen videos.
-
I don't know if you've seen them.
-
You know, Higgins' daughter, Anna, is a nurse,
-
and she videotaped her walk to work in Manhattan.
-
And people are just hanging out the windows going,
-
"Whoo! We love you!
-
We got this! Thank you!" -Oh, my God, dude. Amazing.
-
They are incredible, stepping into this stuff and taking --
-
and just seeing such tough things to see.
-
And thank you so much for everything
-
you guys are doing for us.
-
And people in the hospital, we love you.
-
Thank you so much for all, and we all pray for you guys.
